RWD Vs 4WD Vs Petrol Vs Diesel Vs HP Vs Torque. - Watch this
One of the most popular arguments on the forum...
Benefits of RWD, 4WD, Petrol, Diesel, HP, Torque, grip ext.. Watch this. It should help with some of the arguments ! For me.. the more instant torque and grip the better with driving on UK roads and thats achieved brilliantly by the 335d xd |

Who are you trying to convince? Honestly when I see these threads I wonder if people go out to try and "win" the road every time they drive their car, just get what you like it doesn't matter what is better.....or what you think is better no one cares.

Not everyone wants pops and bangs, or that you make enough noise to let the world know your coming. The older you get you want less noise, that's why for me diesels are perfect, silent and deadly. Just can't be bothered to be sat at a set of traffic lights revving the bollocks out of it so that it bangs and pops and maybe if your lucky chuck out the odd flame or two. Don't get me wrong the sound of a grumbling rumbling snarling V8 is awesome. There is a time and a place for both, but if you want to keep her in doors happy and not make it too obvious that you've just floored it, then its a diesel all the way.

Nope but my car sounds better than a diesel. I'd rather have an electric car.

Noise wise, for instance, i would rather have a 540i, X5 40i or 760i over the 30/40/50d versions.

Here we go!....
Ive got a b7 rs4 that pops, bangs, drones, frightens old ladies etc. When i want to be a child i drive this but its torqueless and only really has any power at 6.5k plus when it really is loud It averages 14mpg so on my 35 mile each way commute i have a 335d touring which is almost as quick (probably quicker mapped), does 38mpg and has all the torque you could want across the rev range The rs4 impresses kids and car bores but puts a smile on my face, the 335d gets on with its business in a far more efficient and restrained way Both are estates, both are 4wd but with very different engines for different uses that have to be driven very differently and in different scenarios, depending on your mood and how deep your pockets are! The mrs wanted to take the 335d from herts to liverpool yesterday to see her dad. I took the beemer to work so she couldnt. Instead of taking her 69 plate golf she took the audi to get her there faster. 2 full tanks of fuel later shes there Neither one is better than the other, they are just very different Last edited by Busted; 11-16-2019 at 12:44 PM.. |

And before that a 440i, somewhere in the past a C63 - but there has been a 640d, so not speaking without experience...
PS @manivxr - does the vxr in your name relate a vauxhall from a past life? And if so was it a 4 pot petrol that made you sound like a rally driver? Or a vectra or insignia? |

Nothing against diesels, do the job well but just don't have a soul. Did not like the 640d - looked amazing and did motorways well but that was it.

Let's leave the pops and bangs to the proper rally cars. Fast German executive saloons, SUVs are not proper sports car in my opinion. Clearly I am making an exception for real M cars. Just my humble opinion. Ps, I run the 35d as a daily runner, so not bought it as a pop/bang sports car. Peace and quiet and the odd bit of acceleration ticks the box. If I want excitement I drive the vxl Last edited by Manivxr; 11-16-2019 at 04:26 PM.. |

All these perceived advantages of this model vs. that model really only exist inside people's heads and usually get trotted out just to massage someone's ego. Quite frankly to be the fastest on UK roads you don't need a fast car you just need to drive like a dick!
...and someone's always got a bigger dick. So as has been said before, just buy what floats yer boat and be happy

Well dont disagree with what he said up to the point his voice got too annoying.
We all know performance dervs give a nice instant shove but on longer stretches of road a similar power turbo petrol will be faster as they can utilise the wider rev range. 9 out of 10 times I'd say a pokey derv suits the uk roads day to day, however I live somewhere where I can stretch a turbo petrol and so can say a 340i is faster than a 335d for example and petrol wins.. (especially when I get one back again ) |
