The Wheel Specialist
Anyone used these ? Obviously a franchise.... Quoted me £460 to powdercoat my 437m wheels (not going down the diamond cut route).

Much less choice in Chester.
S1 alloys £740!!! TWS - £460. I'm going to visit TWS tomorrow to see what colours they have - debating a shadow chrome type finish which should look OEMish in the light.

My post was more about has anyone actually used The Wheel Specialist rather than a price debate.

£460 does seem a bit high though, are they definitely not charging you the diamond cut price at that? Price below was a quote from them when I was looking at getting all 4 of my 21" wheels powder coated...

Does your price include same day return?
When I used them a few years back they had two options 1) drop off the wheels and collect within a week 2) drive in and out same day Number 2 obviously being the more expensive Also never go with their online quote; I usually rang and got a few quid knocked off but then a friend had used them so got a discount for having been referred. Couldn’t fault their work though although i used the Newport branch and as they are a franchise they are only as good as the people working there |

I've used TWS in leeds - finish lasted just over a year and started bubbling and coming away. Awful aftercare, not interested. I guess it depends on the franchisee.

Used TWS in Bristol. They are quite well rated here and many people I know recommend them.
Definitely negotiate on the price, they came down a bit when I mentioned some competitor pricing. I asked them to ceramic coat my wheels and whether they'd use KKD which I'd already bought. They normally use C5 but agreed. When I picked the car up the guy advised in the end they weren't happy using the KKD in the oven through their usual process so applied the C5 instead, for free! I was impressed with that. That being said, it depends how anal you are. I've never had wheels refurbed or diamond cut refurbs so every little detail I was pointing out. Manager was very knowledgable, some of what looked like marks or scratches were actually caused by the way the alloy wheel is constructed rather than something done on the lathe. There were a couple of tiny imperfections which you wouldn't find on new wheels but that was being OCD. However when I got the car home and took all the wheels off to clean the brakes, I noticed on the rear of a couple of wheels there were obvious damage marks from the clamps. Took it back and they were most apologetic, manager was pissed off as he said he specifically told the guys to use rubber feet when mounting the wheels so as not to cause damage. Obviously sorted it for me. All in all good experience largely based on how helpful and knowledgable the front office staff were. In the end paid £132 for the refurb per wheel and then extra for the ceramic coating - which is 1000% worth it, even though expensive. One thing which annoyed me, was I had four new tyres I wanted fitting at the same time. Considering I was already paying them to remove and refit tyres, and I said I wanted to take away the old ones, they still insisted on charging me £12 a corner since they didn't supply them. |

Thanks I guess it will depend on the franchisee.
Hopefully the Ellesmere Port branch will be a car enthusiast at heart and do a good job!

I used the one in Cwmbran a few years ago.
I would have got a better job if I’d asked Stevie Wonder & given him a chisel to paint with. The finish was terrible & they had to be done again. Second job was better but not perfect & at that stage I couldn’t be bothered with the extra hassle of the complaint. I’d never use those cowboys again, their customer service was horrendous. But, they’re a franchise at the end of the day & each one is different. |

Got this quote from The Wheel Specialist, Birmingham in November 2017 for my 18" 400M winter set. This was to drop off the wheels with tyres on and collect fully refurbished with tyres refitted.
I know it was a while ago but they shouldn't have gone up that much. Still haven't got round to having them done. I have used them before with an Alfa that had teledial wheels . Drove the car in first thing in the morning, and picked it up in the afternoon with the wheels done. Was pleased with the result. Last edited by sensible; 05-10-2021 at 04:42 PM.. |

SteveChester My dad just had a quote to powder coat his XC60 20" wheels at Swansway bodyshop in Crewe. They are the group bodyshop for the local Audi dealership so not a cheap franchise.
Full job, drive in- drive out was coming in at just over £80 a corner (inc vat) Might be worth a look at their website as Crewe only 30 mins away from you https://www.swanswaygarages.com/body...refurbishment/ EDIT: Just seen you are only interested in the Wheel Specialst pricing - ignore me
