If you have Android, Install FoxFi (WiFi Tether)
Enable bluetooth dun. Connect car to the phone. From main menu Select ConnectedDrive->BMW Live->Settings.
Set Country UK. save. Update BMW Live to get latest updates. I do not have combox on my car, only option 6NH and it is working.
I seem to remember that BMW Live and BMW Assist are mutually exclusive. Does anyone know if that's the case?

My car has 6NL, 6NF, 6NR and 6UH. I think BMW Assist is useless. But I would hate to lose other capabilities.

Any suggestions?

I am pretty sure that in the U.S., so long as you have Telematics (6NL / BMW Assist), you can only get BMW Online, which is similar to BWM Live but through BMW Assist via the car's SIM card, and this is part of the Paid Convenience Plan for $199 Per Year:

The Google Search functionality of BMW Online, along with the My Info (Google Send-To Car) makes BMW Assist worth having:

Yes it is. So that would suggest that in 2014 models with HU_ENTRY the combox is built in to the head unit? Haven't checked the trunk completely but at a glance i didn't notice anything.

I've been playing around in ESys, trying to uncover more of its mysteries. :-)

I like the fact that many things, like SVT and FP can be saved to disk, then reopened for viewing (and presumably editing) offline from the car.

Tonight, I looked at the selection tray carefully for the first time and came across the editor in the screenshot below. Does anyone have any insight on what this does? It seems like it's designed to connect to BMW servers to update the infotainment systems.

If so, I'd sure love to get a Gracenote database update, for example. I've searched and searched and while Toyota (!) has an owner process for updating Gracenote, I can't find any way to do it in our cars.

There's no end to the digital mystery of F series BMWs, is there?

Yes, this is for updating the Navigation Maps and Gracenotes Database from a BMW Server.

Gracenote Database is easy to update without E-Sys though.

1) Download Gracenote Database (e.g. gracenote_db_01.13.iso) and burn to DVD.

2) Enter hidden CIC Service Menu.

3) Go to Gracenote Menu and perform update:

Is it possible to enable the option 6NR "BMW apps" or does this require loading additional software? I am thinking of getting an iphone since the my13 doesn't support my android the way I want it to. Thanks.

You need a 9C FSC Enabling Code Imported and Activated in the Head Unit plus 6NR Coding.

You will not have the FBAS Video connection from 6NF Base Plate to back of CIC though, so you will not have Video nor iPod Out GUI functions, but all else will work.

Where does one acquire a "9C FSC Enabling Code" ? is there a cost associated with it? Thanks.

From a seller with access to BMW ASAP Portal. Cost is around $200, and you Import and Activate it yourself.

It is the same process, although the database file (e.g. gracenote_db_01.13-NBT.iso) is different for NBT.

The database is about 1 GB for CIC and is 4 GB for NBT.

Thanks for the Info.

Where can I get the DB?
Is it enabled by default? Or do I need to code it?

Cheers,

PEter

No, I was waiting on that question.

Enter the Service Menu of the CIC as follows:

Call up the Start Menu
  • Push the controller in the up direction and hold for at least 10 seconds
  • Turn the controller 3 notches to the right
  • Turn the controller 3 notches to the left
  • Turn the controller 1 notch to the right
  • Turn the controller 1 notch to the left
  • Turn the controller 1 notch to the right
  • Press the controller button down and release
The Service menu is now added as the last submenu to the menu Settings, you will find the Gracenote menu there.
