Bit of Fun. V8 Quest.

Wet and indoors. So if you have a minute what would be your favourite interpretation of a V8 car. I'd have to go with at least 4 seats so most sports cars l, a la F Type are out.

For me :-

Cheapest Option
Mustang GT - Manual
Great looks, manual option.
Terrible (ish) interior, manual is a bit slow, some reliability issues.

Brit Option
Velar SVA or £10k less Jag F Pace SVR
Does it all kind of car. Both just refreshed so major weaknesses addressed.
Deals are dreadful on these.

Outsider Not Really Considered
Merc GLC 63
AMG just nail exhaust noise. Revised looks inside and out are the best Merc offering in years. I think this is the shortest U.K. car on sale with a V8 that without seat 4.
Cons, well it is a Merc.

So what others are on your list. I left out the obvious M550i and M5 are well, too obvious.

E63S estate. RS6 estate. Maserati.

Guess the use the car will be put to might help as most of the time, despite the V8 they are doing daily drudgery...

Looks great in the garage then with a trickle charger plugged in, waiting all year for THAT day.

CLS 63s - Shooting brake , rare as rocking horse poo.

DB11 - For the rear seat option , got to be grey.

Cayenne - Turbo S (GTS), for the soccer mum looks with supercar performance.

I've obviously still got a bit of work still to do......

V8 Vantage has always been on the list, although Maserati Granturismo has the advantage of 'four' seats...

The Mustang also has potential, and probably less of a money pit.

I love the classic lines of the Mercedes R107 series, so if I had a garage, I'd like to put a 450SL in it.

And forgot to add, that whilst a bit cliche, pretty much any Ferrari V8 sounds fantastic

Funny thing about TVR, I owned a Chimaera back in the late 90s - I was going through my 'lunatic' stage, and had, in succession, a Lotus Carlton, a Volvo 850T5-R saloon (in yellow, obviously), a Subaru Impreza Terzo 3, and then a Chimaera 450.

The TVR was brilliantly reliable. I used it as my daily driver, commuting 30 miles each way. The economy was reasonable too, at about 25mpg. The only time it would go a bit silly is if you put your foot down too rapidly, you did have to learn to treat the throttle with a bit of respect.

Wife drove it once, and said 'Never again !'. And she'd happily drive the Subaru or the Volvo.

My boss back in 1989 had a TVR S as his company car when he recruited me - and was driving Ranmoor Sheffield to Nottingham City Centre a few times a week. When it broke down on the journey there and back with different faults and had to be recovered he gave up - they were apparently the 10th and 11th fails in 10 months. It would also bottom on normal roads in normal driving!

He traded it for an Astra GTE 16v (had to be bought with no cash input under company rules!) which he then lent me for a week whilst he went off skiing.... that git nicked a few times!

I agree! My chim was my only car for a couple of years living in Central London and commuting. It was fine bar a broken alternator once, through summer and winter snow!
The straight through pipes on the big V8 were amazing and driving into town through Fulham every night with the sound bouncing off the buildings will stay with me for ever!
Might have stayed with my ex neighbours as well on my early starts..

I'd get the latest model Chim 5.0 or 4.5 I could and spend the remaining budget (vs a gle63 ) on upgrades, super charger, suspension, brakes, body work and a new sun hat.

No love here for the M5 either previous or current generation. F10 M5 are way down to low prices now but they don’t seem to be highly regarded as a V8. Or in a similar vain the X5M?
