Dinantronics sport performance tuner

Who has one, and how do you like it? Any reliability issues? I have been reading about this little device ever since “hearing” about it in another thread and am intrigued. From what I’ve read, you can increase your BP by up to 4 psi. That’s pretty impressive, at least I think so. My car is predominately stock. I have an aluminum charge pipe, an MST inlet pipe, and a yet to be installed TIC pipe. From what I am reading, this set-up should be more than up to the task of handling an additional 2 PSI, the most boost I would run with these minor upgrades. If every psi of boost gives you an additional ~7% increase in hp, this would put me at ~275 hp. That’s pretty awesome from a simple plug and play device.

Fast easy power for a low cost. But with flash tunes pushing more power smoothly, unless u worry about warranty, what’s the point?

I had one for a while before I got BM3. I liked it a lot. It was really simple, added a reasonable amount of power, and it was literally as simple as can be. I went 13.42 at 99.12mph in the 1/4 with the Dinan sport and no other mods. If you don't feel like paying for a full flash tune, it's a great option.

Only complaint was with the app on my iPhone 7. It was slow and didn't feel all that refined, but it always worked. YMMV with a different phone or they may have updated it.

Had one on my F30 and now my F31.

Good stuff. Like others have said, if you flash a tune, goodbye any warranty claims (most likely if they have to scan ecu).

This installs so fast, and the bluetooth switching and gauges are awesome. Yes, some newer Android OS's can't connect, but I've got an older android and iphone here. It does ship in a specific mode, too.

Any tune, even piggybacks, can void a warranty. Dealers can essentially pull datalogs and see that boost has been set over factory specs.

I have one for now until warranty is out. I like it. Cheap, decent power gain for the money and ease of install. Something like 4psi above factory. Makes a good difference in the low rpm tq. Before the dinan sport I would be neck and neck with my friends 17 Taurus sho. After it, I pulled about 2 to 3 car lengths on him from 40mph to 130mph (Race was done in Mexico of course).

Except it reports the "normals" to the ecu while sending the extra requests to the sensors. This is why they don't produce the power of a reflash. I remember one guy on a forum that couldn't get the correct boost numbers from the obdii port with a piggyback. He kept complaining about it without even a sense of knowledge.

I'll agree, they could see something slightly abnormal, but an ECU flash is permanent and the flash counter can NOT be undone.

Let me correct that, sounded weird... ecu flash is not permanent, but the flash counter is. That's what can be detected very easily if they have to hook up your bmw to the mothership.

I agree that a piggyback is more "hideable" than a flash, but either way, if the dealer wants to know, they can know if they do enough digging

Yup, in extreme circumstances, they could pull a torque log value, or similar. That's not standard, but it's possible.

I just use the extra power to point and shoot when I have to (traffic merging, etc). Most of the torque is not going be WOT, even on twisty roads.

Still doesn't validate a full ecu flash which would be detected immediately.

I run +3 psi with 93 octane and no other mods. The difference is insane, especially with passing on the highway. I love this little box.

The app definitely sucks, but would be useful to change the boost setting if you saw yourself doing that.

I can’t imagine not doing this, the car feels pig slow when going back to stock.

Ran my piggy 428i GC over the weekend. Just a drop-in and sport tuner. Trapped 100 in my last run. I am a drag newb... made a video.

This thread reinforced my original thoughts on the sport tuner. I'll definitely be adding this soon along with an AFE Pro 5R oe style air filter to compliment it.

I have had one installed on my otherwise stock n26 and couldn't be happier with the results for the price. I keep mine on "race" mode (+4psi) and the low end power increase is amazing. I haven't had any connectivity problems with my phones (iPhone 7 and iPhone X) although they did remove the active boost gauge which was fun to watch while driving. Super easy to install and remove before you go to the dealer I'm looking to upgrade to a JB4 soon when the money comes around and will be selling the dinantronics when that happens. Only because I plan on doing some more engine mods but I have loved every minute of the Dinan controller.

I struggled a bit as well, but once you use the flat head to push the clip away of the sensor, take your hand and pull the connector out via the plastic not the wires. The connector will pull the entire clip portion out along with it as the connector is the female end.
