Ps2 install alone, drive impressions

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I did this on jack stands and blocks in my garage, took me 28 hours over 10 days, i have been working 75 hour work week, and fitting in 2-4 hours when i could. Maybe iCould’ve done this faster but I took my time. Dismantling came out no problem removing all lines from the block leave them stuck to the turbo. Putting it back together was much more difficult. Like I said I literally did this by myself and it was tough to get up into place, very heavy and awkward. I first Tried to get it up into place with the one stainless steel line attached to it and the gaskets seals on the manifold... I quickly realized that wasn’t going to work. I would bang up the graphite seals, and bend or break the top line that I didn’t see and way to put on after manifold is bolted down. I think its the oil feed line. So what i ended up doing was stripping turbo down, and once it was stuffed up into its general cavity, i put the seals on, and attached the oil feed line... i then went back under the car and wiggled it gently onto the studs... only help i had was my girl put on one flange nut up top towards the front of the engine and i got one on the back while i was under.
Everything went pretty smoothly until I was filling the coolant back up, and it started pouring out of the bottom from the turbo. I was like oh fuck, but it ended up just being a O-ring on the coolant feed line into The turbo. I was able to replace it without taking anything off the car. Once I did that I was all good.
I own a supercharged 550 rear wheel horsepower C6 Corvette, which is an absolute monster... This car is not there yet. It is definitely faster with the PR stage two turbo, but it needs the high-pressure fuel pump upgraded to take it to the next level I feel. Last Friday I ordered the XDI 35, and I can’t wait to get that in and see what this car at 500 hp feels like. Right now I am on BM3 ots tune 2h 93 octane. Overall this was time consuming but doable on jack stands. I agree with brian at kies that you need all new lines from turbo to block... Once I have the turbo off the car I use vice grips to pull off the old lines I did not have to be careful with it, just had to be careful with not marking the turbo manifold or beating up the metal where the lines attached. The lines that wouldn’t come off easily like I said I use vice grips and a trim removal tool made out of plastic so I would not damage the turbo manifold ( I don’t want a reduced core deposit because I damaged the turbo, so it worked perfectly but this is absolutely impossible while its on the car. Big thanks to Mike at x-ph.com for the great customer service, and brian at Kies Motorsports for the video series on his 335, invaluable!
If anyone has any questions about doing this I would be happy to answer anything anybody has

Excellent. Really appreciate you taking the time to write this up.
Please keep us posted with more driving impressions especially after the HPFP upgrade.
Initial thoughts on turbo lag? Drivability? Butt Dyno acceleration impression?
Cost & effort, was it worth it?

Nice write up man. I'm curious as well. Part of me says keep the 335i forever and upgrade turbos and stuff. Other part says run it for a while and just go m3 or m5 one day lol

For me an m car isn’t worth it, as I already have one car i cant drive 6months a year... awd is an amazing thing. It is a little laggier, but i think it will seriously wake up with hpfp. Its a 40-50 hp increase with ps2 and it doesn’t feel like any more than that. Stock to stage 2 was serious and I believe the xdi 35 will add another serious increase. I figure stock to stage 2 was +70 hp, oem turbo to pure2 + 40, xdi35 map sensor and 21-22psi tune will add another 80-100hp. I think that when i bought the car and felt like it was chocking but going to be fast once I removed the cat converter, i feel like the car needs more fuel and psi and it will wake up to a serious level. I will update once i get the fuel pump. I know i need a 3.5 map sensor... anything else I’m going to need to hit 21 psi?

PSI isn't everything. You have to make sure you have volume (XDI 35 - check) AND octane. You might not be making any more power on 21 vs 16 if your octane -> ign timing is bad.

Yeah with just a PS2 turbo and the OTS 2H tune from BM3, i think i remember people dynoing at around 440whp. Once the xdi-35 is installed and a custom tune is done, i have seen 510whp. Should be a pretty large jump and will be really fun to drive! Good luck, and i cant wait to do the same to my car lol
