EWG N55 Speedtech BW EFR 8374 going for 600WHP+

I got my Speedtech kit since Jan 2018 but due lack of time and finance I couldn’t get my kit installed until last March. My goal in mind is relatively modest is to make 600-620 WHP max (For safety reason) since I’m not planning on building the engine although I know with supporting mods this turbo is capable of much more.

Here some pictures of the turbo kit installation at a local shop:

Installation went very smoothly it took the shop 3 comfortable days to complete. However, there was a minor issue my turbo came with a broken BOV cover so the shop sent BOV cover to another shop to have an aluminum valve built. My recommendation for anyone considering the EFR turbo is to go ahead and order aftermarket aluminum BOV Billet cover to replace the weak stock plastic cover.

I decided to take things slowly and see what I can push the car with the current mods that I already have:
- Bootmod3 Stage 2H 93 OTS as backend flash. proTUNING Freaks
- JB4.
- xHP flash.
- BMS Meth kit.
- ER Intercooler and Chargepipe.

Here are my dyno results, I’m still using completely stock fuel system (HPFP/LPFP) and stock intake/air filter/exhaust using 98 RON (93 AKI) and 100% Meth injection via chargepipe.

And here the dyno results compare to my stock turbo .. all done on the same dyno.

My 100-200 and 100-290 draggy result:

So far, I’m very happy with the results with such basic and simple setup but it’s not quite close to my goal in mind. This is as max as you can push it with stock fuel system, I tried to use very small mixture of ethanol/ race gas but even with such small mixture the stock fuel pump can’t keep up and it kept crashing. I already ordered Stage 2 HPFP Upgrade from Dorch Engineering waiting for it to arrive to push the car further. As my stock HPFP even for the current setup started to give me troubles .. can't push more than 17 PSI.

Special thanks to Terry@BMS for helping me with JB4 stuff and Jeff@Speedtech for the great turbo kit!

What I love about the current setup is on daily I’m using JB4 Map 0 (OTS flash tune only) which give me 450WHP+ perfect for daily use and on demand with few clicks I can switch the car to Map 3 ready for racing.
I’ll keep you updated once I get my Dorch Stage 2 HPFP and dyno the car with full VP109 race gas.

Nice build. I am actually fairly impressed by the spool for a turbo of that size. 3500 isnt too bad.

Also in for some logs on various tuning setups

Yeah it's one of the reason I went with the EFR turbo instead the other offering.
Here 3 JB4 logs
  • JB4 Map 0 - bootmod3 backend flash only.
  • JB4 Map 3 - 90 Adder - street pull.
  • JB4 Map 3 - 85 Adder - dyno pull.

I’d double check your oil drain hose, it looks kinked in the pic.

Looking forwards to your results!

Subscribed!! I am following your path, bought my kit spring of 2019, finally installing later this summer due to other circumstances lol. I will be tuning to appx 650 hp, i have a stage 2 LPFP and will be building a stage 3 and running PI, I want to run at least e50 like I am now with stock turbo and stage 2 LPFP.

Jeff at Speedtech is awesome as is the BMS support. Looking forward to following your success!

I'll be doing the install myself as soon as I get my lift installed, I really appreciate the pics!

subscribed as well. Already been eyeballing some different turbo upgrade options for a few months on down the road and this is a nice candidate. Thank you for sharing

Installation went smoothly, the car started right away from the first crank!

Here is a quick 100-200 test on 93 fuel only NO meth - (JB4 +3 additive map 6) 20 PSI peak boost

https://datazap.me/u/kfardan/3-addit...log=0&data=1-4

special thanks to Chris Dorch Engineering for the great fuel pump!

Next week I'll finally test it with full race gas 109 and ethanol mixture as well.

Hey man I appreciate you logging and posting all of this. There is a good chance that I order this exact kit this year. Following this thread has definitely played a role in that. Any issues at all since installation? How many miles on the car at the time of installation?

The miles was around (50953 Miles) / (82000 KM). Now more than (3100 Miles) /(5000 KM) with hard driving without any single issue.
My only issue was my stock HPFP could not keep up and made the car bog down. With the stage 2 HPFP installed now no more issue.

Nice! Thats good to hear. You had a stock EWG correct? I have a Dorch Stage 1 I will be installing next week so by the time I install the Turbo Kit I should not have any fueling issues. Thanks again!

Is the factory ewg reused? I see a solenoid on the side of the BW Turbo in your photo.

Yeah, it’s the only part needed from the stock turbo is the wastegate actuator. The EFR turbo comes with its own. But to better let the ECU control, Speedtech kit use the factory actuator mounted to the EFR with their own bracket.

I've been considering SpeedTech's kit since they released several years ago, VERY well thought out S3 Kit with BW EFR Turbo & Manifold...

Will you eventually move away from Jb4 & Meth? Run with Dorch S2 HPFP and Flash? .

Yeah, I was actually considering to switch to flash only and standalone meth controller. But I still did not find a solution that fit my requirements. I’m still open to suggestion though.

I want a map to run 93 fuel for daily use and then on demand I want to be able to switch to a methanol map.

I talked to a two different tuner one of the tuner approach is to have to separate maps one for 93 and one for methanol (But it requires you to reflash each time you want to switch).
The other tuner approach was to have methanol enabled only at certain boost/full throttle which again not quite what I want to do.

The JB4 with latest firmware (v18) actually works very well in terms of boost control I would say it’s almost as smooth as flash only. The older version (17 and lower) was not great you feel as if the DME is fighting with JB4 to control the boost I was so close to get rid of it. But I'm glad I give the v18 a try.

I’m still experimenting at this point and see how far I can push things; I’m open to suggestion if anyone have a better solution for the methanol control.

Ok that was the missing piece to my equation. Thank you for the explanation.

Here a new record for me using around E40 mixture fuel and 100% Meth injection.
Weather temperature was around 35°C / 95°F

Next week I'll Dyno the car ... hopefully an easy 600WHP++
