Autistic girl notices something on my trim

I was ferrying my step daughters friends to an event and one of them is kind of anti-social, in fact autistic. She says nothing during the whole ride but then when we got close to her destination she asks me why my door trim doesn't match my dash trim?

I've had this car for nearly a year and I never noticed. Is this trim supposed to match????

PO painted or wrapped your door trim? My door trim is silver like your dash, and my original dash trim was same silver. I’ve seen anodized blue, piano black, and leather wrapped, but not matte black door trim. I’d actually prefer something like the black matte since I now have the MP CF interior .. lol

I did the carbon fiber wrap, original was wood. But the dash trim was silver and the door trim was that gray/black or whatever it is. However, the car itself is a pretty base model. My 04 E46 wagon was better optioned that this car. Not a complaint since I got a great price and I like the performance upgrade but it's possible some panels were subbed out by the PO. Very possible in fact.

Really, just wondering if that's a swap I'd like to look into making for continuity in the cabin. I mean, the car is pretty much my hobby now.

Have you seen what it’s made of? I’d think it’d be pretty easy to see if it’s original or something atop the silver there. If it’s something you can remove - you’d get your matching silver back..

If it’s original, it’s odd to me the dash trim doesn’t match (but on lower trim package cars maybe that’s economical?). So to match, maybe you cover your dash silver?

Mine didn't match. I wrapped the door trim with 'silver' CF.

Pre LCI the ambient light plastic strip on the door was matte black regardless of your dash trim. For LCI models, the strip on the door matched the bottom of the trim on the dash. There was silver, black, red, blue I believe depending on the dash trim.

It looks like you have a pre-LCI model (LCI models also had a thin silver bezel around the air vents, which is how I can tell) so the plastic strip on the door came from the factory in that matte black finish.

On the 4-series the door trim strips match the dash, whether pre-LCI or LCI… why I thought it was odd, sry.

I found a little DIY on repainting it. Not sure if it's worth it though especially if it flakes or starts to chip.

Painting it in place isn't practical, and removing it to paint it is a major undertaking. This is mine, wrapped:

Does anyone know the part number of the door strip? In LCI, the stripe matches the dashboard and i wonder if it can be bought to have perfect match rather than sticker it.

Thanks.
