Trade 2018 MPE 340i for M3?
I got a decent offer on my rare 2018 340i M Performance Edition in Laguna Seca Blue (1 of 50) to trade up to an Alpine White 2017 M3. The thing that is holding me back is that the 340 that I have is much rarer than a normal M3. The Individual options and color on the car are a really nice touch but when it comes to an M3 there is just alot more road presence and desirability for that car.
Im trying to decide what the best option would be and any input would be helpful. Im looking at it from a perspective of which car would hold value more. Last edited by Izyrela; 07-11-2022 at 07:02 PM.. |

Considering the price tag on the m3 is double your cars, the m3 has a lot more to lose, but also that extra price tag to lose it from.
Only issue I'd forsee is potential buyers are wary of hard-core models because they know that generally only driving enthusiasts or people flashing cash are the ones to buy them. |

Personally, I wouldn’t do that, but I’m not an ///M3 kinda guy. It’s too much for me. Especially as a daily driver.

I'd keep the 340i. The M3 although quicker and hardcore, also requires special servicing which can be expensive. If not maintained the S55 could cause problems as is based on the N55 engine.
The B58 is a different beast and perhaps the finest BMW have created. The M performance exhaust has a deeper more rounded growl than the M3. I'd only get an M3 if I would take it to the track, but for road use your 340i with an individual colour combination and M performance sound are rare - still very desirable. A friend for mine traded his 2017 340i M Performance for a 2016 M3. Although the M3 was an absolute beast he found a few issues with it. He also noticed his fuel cost increased significantly. He sold it for another 340i and is about to get an M Performance package installed. |

I personally wouldn’t bite on the M3. Unless you know the service history and are confident the car has been well maintained and not pushed hard, it’s a lot of risk. Also as you point out, you have a rare, head turning color. Would you really be ok driving a white M3? In a sea of white cars, your M3 would just be another car. Again, all personal taste. I always like seeing flashy M paints as I can spot that M from a distance.

I have a 2018 MPE in Alpine White, I thought about getting an M3 many times because the body style just looks amazing compared to the 340. However, all the extras and mods I've done to my 340 so far, I really enjoy it.
Pros of 340 MPE: Digital 6WB Cluster M performance exhaust sound Full Individual Leather Interior Similarities: High Performance M Brakes Adaptive M suspension 20" Wheels w/low profile tires Keep the LSB 340 and sell it later for a MPE M340 G20 |

I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. I drooled over the MPE but being in the USA was denied the opportunity and settled by having many of the MPE M Performance packages installed before and after the sale. The 340ix was a better fit for me as an all weather practical daily driver with lower fuel consumption and maintenance cost in stock form. Most of the MPE parts are available to retrofit but that extended leather interior takes it to the next level in F30 340 land. Out of the box the 340i has a lot of power potential with a strong after market but it still won't garner the attention a full blown M car will. The F8x is a statement car more focused toward performance. It has more power, better suspension, if optioned has an even nicer sport interior IMO and the exterior styling is more aggressive. The 340ix MPE is rare and could command a premium compared to the run of the mill 340i's. Will it hold or even appreciate in value in years to come like the M3/M4? Probably not..

I'd keep the 340i. Two years ago I was either going to purchase a 2015 M3 at 47k miles or a 2017 340i with 22k. Well I purchased the 340i and saved a good chunk of change which went to a MPE, Dinan Midpipe, Dinan Intake, wheel spacers, some M Performace exterior parts, and a tune. My car is as fast as a stock M3 and it looks pretty good. I also have a daily for winter weather here in New England. That was the biggest factor in choosing the AWD 340i over the M3 as I didn't have to buy a winter beater.

You have a 1 of 50 340 compared to a regular F80. Cool as they are, they aren't as rare as the car you currently have. I would say keep the 340 but I'm a bit biased lol
Once you're happy with your decision, that's all that matters. |

I'd keep the LSB F30 since it's a rare individual build. If I were in your shoes I'd only trade for an F80 that has a special order and attractive color.
Of course the M3 overall will be the more desirable performance sedan but you do have something fairly rare and unique in its own right. Beautiful car and color homie!

This is all going to be biased towards your f32. Go ask the f80 crowd what they think.

You'd have to do what makes you happy on this one. But unless you keep that car in a showroom, and never drive it, 1 of 50 might as well be 1 of 1,000,000 since the 3-series are such a mass produced machine.
We don't have "collectable" cars. There is just too many out there (my 2-cents worth). |
