CG Precision makes one for the 340.

Yeah, I'm sorta in the same boat. I would welcome the extra noise, but am just nervous to deal with the whole CEL. I know the JB4 can make the light go away, but it still won't pass inspection in my state (NY) because the drive-cycle monitors will never go "ready".

ER has the catted version available They are just built to order.. We have the option to make them catted in a drop down box on our site.

Awesome, good to know. I may be reaching here, but any possibility of getting some dyno data comparing the two?

And another question, does going with a catted DP eliminate CEL problems on the F30? I had CEL issues in the past with high flow cats on my Audis and passing emissions was always a pain. Been leaning towards leaving the cat/DP alone on my 340i as a result.

I'm not sure of the cats they are using in the DP, but my guess would be yes we would not have any problems. Otherwise why else would they go through the trouble? Again, I could be wrong so we'll wait for Mike to chime in.

The rule of thumb on the modern BMWs is that the high flow catted gains are bout 50% of the gains of catless.

So if getting 30 whp from catless expect about 15 whp from high flow catted

Catted will not stop the CEL. BMW software tolerances are too rigid.

You might want to consider the black ceramic coat option to help reduce the heat. It's only $90 more dollars but could be worth it at the end of the day.

Thanks. Seems like go catless or go home when it comes to downpipes then.

Is there a substantial difference in noise output comparing catless vs catted?

Catless will be louder deeper sounding.

really? I had a metalcat (hjs) in the downpipe of my 1M and never had a CEL. The B58 is more sensitive?

A CEL will pretty much always appear. Maybe not right away. ITs a balance between high flow and efficiency. I would argue if a CEL does not appear then the cats that were in the downpipes are not much different then the stock ones as BMW tolerances are EXTREMELY tight.

This is misleading and I have to disagree with the "pretty simple" on a 340ix. Maybe a seasoned mechanic with a lift can do it in 1-2 hours but not a DIY in the garage with ramps. I'd love to hear from others that have installed this on a 340i or x and how they got access to the v-band.
Too bad as I was really looking forward to this mod.

You can access it but it's tight. To loosen the clamp you need a flex joint on the Rachet and you reach it but I will say it's a bit of a PITA but doable.

I would never recommend any exhaust work without a lift, so in my statement I assume the car is on a lift.

The XI are usually a little more time consuming the RWD. (tighter)

Hi,

I installed mine this weekend on a 340xi. I got no trouble accessing the clamp. The hardest part for me was getting the OEM DP out. I did it from below. It seems impossible from above unless you take of the turbo. I needed, as expected, to remove the exhaust system.
