SOS malfunction

Soooo I haven't had bluetooth/hands free/middle console USB for a while now.

I found a used combox on eBay and I was told it was plug and play. I installed it today and it was plug and play. My Bluetooth and everything works now.... but.

Now I have a sos malfunction and if I call someone vis hands free I can hear them talking but they can't hear me.

From one problem to the next. Anyone help

If your car didn't come with hands free, it doesn't have microphone. You need a microphone retrofitted.

It did. Everything worked and then when it stopped bmw told me I needed a new combox so I bought a used one and everything works except I have the new issue. But I talk to a few coding guys and they said they may have to just go In the combox settings and code the feature to work as the other box might not have it. My voice command button and all that works

The "SOS Malfunction" error can have many reasons. bad CAN connection.
Wrong/bad microphone wiring.
Wrong/bad emergency speaker connection.
Wrong/bad emergency antenna connection.
If using ISTA shows the error. Calculate measurement plan. This should show an option to check your Combox and all connected modules.

If your car came without and combox and you retrofitted one. You need to reroute the microphone wire from HU to COMBOX.

My car came with a combox. My box's Bluetooth module stopped working so I bought a used box off eBay for $29 and it fixed everything but now gives me the SOS Error along with no hands free mic. This shop in my town couldn't figure it out and they want to have more time to look into it so I gotta drop it off sometime and let them play around with the coding program

Did your hands free mic work at some point with the new combox or did the SOS Error and non working Mic happen right after installing the new combox?

If the issues appeared right after installation, you can wait for a new appointment or you could check one thing yourself and maybe safe some money and time.
Get Esys, connect to car, read coding of Combox_Media and Combox_eCall and check number of microphones. If the Mic worked with your old combox and stopped working with the new, mic settings could be coded differently in new combox.

media -> 3000 General_Parameters -> USED_MICROPHONES
ecall -> 3001 Telematics -> USED_MICROPHONES

If you have two Microphones installed in car ceiling, both should be set to "Stereo". If there is only one, both should be set to "Mono".
