Codes from hell
I reversed my car into a spot after some spirited driving on the highway and an hour later I could not put my car into gear.
Towed it home and saw all these errors. Can someone shed some light on this? Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in? lol, I kid, i kid, It might not be as bad as it looks as they all seem to be related to the same thing. I have no idea what to check but maybe there is a certain module that records wheel speed, etc, that has failed it wont be too big of a deal. Or maybe a wiring harness melted somewhere or something, either way probably best to bring it to a specialist.

I would clear the codes using your code reader and see what happens. You may want to also jackup your car and inspect for damage. Perhaps you bent a control arm, stabilizer bar or wheel speed sensor came off or something.
You know maybe you should go play with a go cart if you want to do donuts and stuff it's a lot safer and less expensive Last edited by mousefarmer; 06-15-2021 at 11:38 AM.. |

OP, he brings up a good point about looking underneath. It is possible, albeit unlikely some road debris clipped something under the car

A bad ABS sensor is far more likely than the battery to be the source of some of the problems. Anything that requires that speed information, from ABS to cruise control, full power, Sport setting and a lot more won't function if even one sensor isn't working.

Would a bad ABS sensor keep you from putting the car in gear?

Probably not, but if there's a cascade effect that causes other errors anything is possible. I had a sensor error that shut down ABS, cruise, traction control, sport, limited speed to 60 MPH, even prevented spoiler deployment, and gave me a 'drive carefully direct to the dealer' message. Luckily I'd picked up a Foxwell a few weeks before, which I used to clear the codes and test the sensors. The sensors were OK, so the fault must have been a false positive. That was three years ago, it never happened again.

A: There's something draining the battery, which causes everything to go into a "deep" sleep. Comfort access gets disabled and I couldn't pass emissions bc of it (Readiness would get cleared after this "deep" sleep). I suspect it's the handles after I wrapped the car, but I'll diagnose further B: Before this "spirited driving" I did a smoky launch for my girl ( she likes that sort of thing). It appears that some tread thread (it was like rubber wire) came off of the tire and got caught in the rear axle. This spinning caught the rear speed sensor wire and literally pulled it, ripping the wire. Probably why I have a slew of codes. I'm still charging the battery, but we'll see if my fix brings this car back to life for the time being. |

And also wondering how he could possibly achieve "smoky launch" with a 428 xdrive……

okay, so to answer all of your replies....
The rest of the tread is fine. Less than 6mo before they need to be changed. I think it's due to my hydraulic jacks in the back affecting camber? idk. Will change soon anyway since I'm seeing metal mesh Donuts aren't smokey launches lmaoooo, but it's funny how burning rubber essentially caused the issue. my xDrive is xDeleted. I couldnt stand how it felt cornering. I do have aftermarket springs that lower and stiffen and a thicker roll bar so I had to. Replacing (i.e. rewiring what was left of the sensor until the new sensor comes) resolved the issue in terms of the car not going in gear. (WHICH IS WILD! At least throw the car in limp. I couldn't even go into neutral for the tow truck) ...and no, no sister. She does have a brother though :P edit: found my short circuirt: my cluster. Upgrading to 6WB soon then Still looking for the short circuit though. Last edited by programmrz; 06-21-2021 at 09:21 PM.. Reason: adding reply |
