428i xdrive axle problem

Front axle popped out of place while driving. Anyone have any recommendations for replacement axles? (Potentially upgrades from oem)

Video uploaded shows the damage

Currently lowered on air ride 3p

I had mine replaced and couldn't find any after market, $1300 each from BMW.

I do have my old ones available if you're interested. All that happened was the outer boots ripped due to installing incorrect front struts.

The chances of front axles being damaged or popping out on lowered xDrive vehicles are much higher than average.

How many miles was the car driven before the front axle failed?

Each time less than 50 miles before the axles blew. I’m now thinking that changing from the 19 to 18 inch set up is putting more strain on the axle at my usual ride height. I’ll replace the axle, get an alignment and hopefully that will fix the issue.

This is my first time lowered on a 18” wheel set up aside from the stock wheels. I’m thinking that’s probably the cause since my 19” set ups never gave me issues.

Do the 328XI axles fit the 4 series? I noticed that fcp euro doesn’t label the f30 xdrive components as matches to the f32

That’s so odd. If that’s the case I would’ve been going through fcp euro to save money and time 🤦🏽*♂️ I’ll contact them and see what they say

Do you need your XDrive? I've seen several issues with XDrive and lowering? You could decode the front axles and take them out completely?

I have x delete so in theory I could. I didn’t think it would be as simple as removing the front axles. You’re saying the wheel will still stay in place without the front axles?

The Axles don't do anything to the wheel position, this is done through the tension strud, the wish bone and the damper,

What you might need to keep is the outer joint piece since it's conneted to the wheel bearing. Not sure it the wheel bearing from the XDrive could be replace with the one from the RWD car. But would be worth a look?

Have you inspected the axle shaft where it fits into the differential? There is a snap ring on the shaft that holds it into the diff (light pressure allows the shaft to be pulled out, usually a pry bar).

If that ring is broken (had similar ring break on an Audi front axle), the axle can slide out of the differential with little force. $0.29 part. Check Realoem diagram for your car
