Apps in Motion Australia
Hey Guys,
In Australia, BMW apps doesn't work in motion, making it useless. In the US it does work in motion. I think its also a problem in Hong Kong too. Their is almost no information on this problem anywhere on the forums From all I have found so far, the CIC and Combox hardware and software is identical to the US. Just some different regional settings. Given this, you would think it would just be a setting that could be changed. The only other information I have come across is that a settings/XML file is written to the Hard Drive in the vehicle which stops this working. From what I can gather, you can get access to the hard drive in a CIC vehicle over telnet Any ideas? |

My earlier CIC works (2012 E92 335) but my NBT does not work. I have tried to use 'service in motion' from binmertech to activate BMW apps but it doesn't unlock it.
I do want this feature but seems not many people ask about this ![]() |

Bimmertech has no idea about this because US NBT doesn't have this restriction. What I'm surprising is, with so many Australian F chassis owners here, there seems no one care about this feature.... |

My research indicates the same as yours. There was some indication that you can update the XML file via a map of firmware update but no positive confirmation that it has been done on NBT - presumably encrypted. |

And yet all the F10's with CIC it doesn't. These are the questions I think we need answers to. Is the US hardware that it works on identical to the AUS hardware. Is CIC Combox and NBT identical in AUS? I'll see if I can check some part numbers just to make sure. Is the Apps software identical in US and AUS? Don't know how to check this What is this XML settings file? I may remove my hard drive and find a way to read the file system How to write to the encrypted XML file in NBT? Don't know this one either What is the difference between a 2012 E92 with CIC and a 2012 F10 with CIC? If anyone else has any input feel free to add |

Update... I've got the ConnectedDrive apps to work without having to have the hand-brake on. So it's possible to view them while stationary at a set of Lights, for example.
I used the Bimmercode app to change the Coding for some of the VideoInMotion related Codes. I've attached the Coding Guide that I found on another post in the Forum, that has the relevant Codes listed under "VideoInMotion...". |

Apps in motion
I have just had VIM >63kmph enabled on my X3 with idrive 5 and asked the supplier about enabling Apps in motion this was his response
"***** .bin for Video-In-Motion(VIM) unlocks all video based features (CarPlay, Screen Mirroring, USB Video, and DVD) but no Text Messages, Emails nor Connected Drive App Services (e.g. News Weather) to work in Motion. I guess the things you are referring to are via Connected Drive Services. These are controlled via provisioning of car, and for older NBT, this can be manipulated, but for NBT2, the file is digitally signed by BMW AG, so not possible to edit." I did post on the forum a couple of weeks ago the iOS Spotify app works in motion but not the Android version! The BMW Calendar and Connected Drive Apps also now work when the vehicle is in motion. I was down in Brisbane over the long weekend and hired a Hyundai i30 that had factory Nav Carplay and Android Auto fitted. Rather annoyed to see Spotify & TuneIn radio apps work with no issue whilst the vehicle was in motion. BMW Australia need to see what all the other manufacturers are legally? enabling on their Australian spec vehicles before they disable these functions

Today I was able to fix a disappearing Spotify app on connected drive by simply going back to an older version on my Android phone. This suggests that the Spotify Android app itself, might be the culprit for the motion lock issue. Especially Spotify being available in motion for iPhone users for years.
I suggest giving the Spotify app a single star on play store and tagging this issue so that atleast they'll start looking into it. Louder the noise higher the chance of it being picked up... |
