H&R Sport Springs / Bump stops

I was reading up on some old posts about people having crashing issues from the suspension with H&R sport springs and oem bump stops. Is this still an issue? Has anyone tried swapping to the F80 bump stops with these springs? F80's have a shorter bump stop. I don't suppose people do bump stop deletes on these cars to make it lower?

I'd like to piggyback onto your post if you don't mind....curious if people have trimmed there front bumpstops in particular, when installing the sports? Somewhat related!

Pass on trimming and for sure don't remove them altogether. The downside of that is serious damage to your car with a sharp enough bump or pothole.

The F80 bump stops are shorter for sure and cheap to buy. I would just buy a set and throw them on while you are swapping the springs. That's what I did.

So just so I understand correctly, the f80 bump stops are shorter which would make the rear sit lower, correct?

Bump stops don't change ride height. Only springs or adjustable coil overs will do that. Bump stops are just an additional damper or spring (if you will) that limit suspension travel, absorb energy of a bad bottom out, or stiffen the rate of the spring as you engage the stop through regular driving.

If the springs are low enough such that the car is sitting on the OE bump stops at static ride height, then going to shorter ones will lower the ride height more. It's not terribly difficult to run into that scenario on these platforms.

I didn't want the OP to think just removing the stops will lower the car. But you are absolutely right in that if he is riding on the stock bump stops already when lowered, then taking them out may drop the car more. That leaves the car very vulnerable to damage though and not something I would recommend.

Yeah I understood that. But yeah f80 bump stops would lower it a bit more.

As FaRKle! said, it'll only lower it more if your suspension is currently sitting on the stock bumpstops. If that's the case, I'd recommend getting shorter ones (ie. F80) because you're no longer using your springs as suspension but rather just the foam rubber bumps.

If you're not sitting on the bumpstops, shorter ones will allow for more suspension travel before "bottoming out" and hitting the stops, but won't affect your ride height; usually makes for better ride quality on uneven road surfaces because your springs and dampers are able to do their job more effectively.

Sorry to revive an old thread but does anyone know if the H&R Sports or Eibach Pro Kit springs sit on the stock FRONT bumpstops? I think my mechanic cut too much of the front bumpstops which allowed the suspension to travel more and causing a slight rub on large dips or potholes.
