I didn't buy this car for its economy, but it's great to know if you need to do a long run, it can return reasonable numbers.
Headed down to Cornwall for the long weekend with the family. Set off at 4:30am to be ahead of the traffic from just above Newmarket. Approx 300 miles later, it had recorded 42.4 mpg. I had the car on cruise set at 5mph above and there were a couple of 50 zones, but this is a seriously impressive result. Love Cornwall too. The view is from a fish restaurant above widemouth which was excellent by the way...

Yep, the B58 combined with the ZF8 is a fantastic bit of kit
My last tankful was my best ever - 35.98mpg brim-to-brim - and that's lots of Bank Holiday motorway traffic (stationary ) followed by some lets-release-the-tension Sport+ tomfoolery.

Views look stunning, and the fuel figures are remarkable. Not sure how BMW do it as they are so much better than the comp manages. My son in law has a c43 coupe which is woeful on petrol, not much better than my bmw (although I am still pre RIS...)

I remember when I got my 40i back in late 2015 and on a few relaxed motorway journeys I posted that I was getting well over 40mpg. It was met with much suspicion plus hoots of derision at the time but it's good to see that the B58 is emerging as a capable unit that doesn't have to kick you in the balls at every fill up

Certainly less CO2 and if those DPFs work then clean-ish air. |

The 40i does seem to have pretty decent economy but the real world average economy seems to be about 30mpg according to the 130 340i/440i cars measured here: https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overv...0i&powerunit=2 https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overv...0i&powerunit=2 That said, if my next car is 3 Series size, the M340i looks the best choice by some margin. * - this film reference has been included to wind up a certain forum member who objects to it being used incorrectly! |

motorway + not driving like miss daisy still gets 37-38mpg. A 2016 honda type R would get me 42mpg on the motorway, so... a good effort from BMW i guess |

I've noticed the economy of mine get better and better as i put more miles on it. Only 11k at the moment.
I too get 38-40 mpg on long motorway runs, so you can imagine what I get around town or during weekend drives as my overall average is only 26ish lol
