Do you plan to keep the car more than 3 years? If no, $80/yr. If yes, $300.

Car play should be standard on all cars no extra charge or subscription. It's a safety feature. Like not charging for air bags or traction control and rear camera. We should lobby for a new law.

Oh that's priceless ... do you seriously think a single manufacturers closed garden application tied to one brand of phone is a "safety feature"?

and as said by others, different ownership options, different payment structures, I'd certainly only want to pay $60 for 2 years after my first year free if I were leasing for 3 years over $300, but I'd consider $300 if I knew I was keeping the car.

It should be free. For many other manufacturers, like the Honda Civic, it is free.

I would like to have a cheaper option that keep the Navigation screen but without the BMW maps. I always use Waze or Google Maps in CarPlay, I never use the built-in maps.

I opted for the $300 fee since I will be keep my car for 5 years. Now I wonder if my CarPlay subscription can be transferred to a different car when I purchase another one in the future.

I think a USB Carplay should be standard and wireless Carplay should be a low cost option. Let's say $100 for lifetime subscription. I would be willing to pay $100 for it's convenient feature not $300.

I don't believe it's transferable. It's coded to the head unit. Much like extended service contract is attached to the VIN and can not be transferred.

I lost $2000 because of this BMW rule trading in my vehicle.

BMW engineers and designers are brilliant. The accountants and marketing -- not so much.
