Gas is gas, there are no major differences between brands. Shell does not make 98 octane anyway. Perhaps you're looking at ratings from Europe or Australia, which aren't measured the same as in the US.

Only had it 2 months, but my B48 has had 8 tanks of Shell 93 V-Power Nitro+ and seems to really like it. Certainly no knocking.

I'm not sure why Shell 93 would knock more than any other type of 93 octane.

Stock B46 and shell 93 here. Zero issues. I've run BP 93 too and no issues there as well.

Costco 91. Been awesome.

I used to buy Shell, but not many cars would buy from my local shell. So I'm guessing it had old gas and occasionally my car would have strange gas smells. Went away when I switched to Costco.

As long as the fuel has the Top Tier designation and meets or exceeds the octane rating then it's fine. My local Costco gas station refills daily, so I'm always getting new fuel which is important IMO.

Shell is top tier. A lot of people swear by shell. I used to fill up with BP ultimate because they also had E85 (for when I was running my JB4). But since my car has been stock for a while now, I moved to shell because apparently it's the best?

'13 328i F30 N20, no issues with Shell at all, it actually loves Shell. The only way gas would cause a knock would be bad gas, someone's being cheap by putting the lowest octane gas in or someone put diesel in (which would cause more than a knock). But as long as the right gas octane rating is used, it's good to go.

No issues with shell or chevron. Would run chevron for Techron due to driving across the country, but shell was good too.

As much praise as Sunoco gets, I consistently get CELs when using the station by my house. 93oct. Car is a 14 n20 completely stock. Shell and Costco FTW!

I agree. I think a bad tank of gas is certainly possible but picking one brand over the other is pointless. If there's any difference it's a regional one, not brand-based.

Picking one brand over another doesn't necessarily get you anything. For instance, for all the hype about Sunoco they haven't refined all of their own gas since 2011, none since 2019.

this is a very interesting post. I recently went stg 1 93 oct in NJ and found the stations like exxon feel way way way worse than shell. I found shell 93oct to feel the best for the car. I feel more throttle response and more power too. With other brands of 93oct, the car seems to bog and generally runs weird. I probably should do a datalog at some point....
