code (480AB5)

Any of you xdrive owners ever get this code (480AB5) in the memory info using carly or bimmerlink. I couldn't really pull too much info on it. no lights are on yet but idk if this is a cause for concern. Thanks

Not sure, I've not really been able to find much information on it

I did have it pop up on Info Codes once when I plugged in the OBD, but cleared it and never came back, so not sure.

It might have been stored even when the problem was fixed, maybe a result of tyre circumference in the past or something I'm not sure.

I've asked multiple places and not got a useful answer though.

Have you found an answer/fix for this issue? I just came across this because I have the same issue, also can't clear it.

when this code is set, its because the transfer case is overheating (old fluid isnt up to the task anymore, & its time for a fluid change)

What does that mean though? The clutches disengage and put it into RWD until it's reset?

It doesn't give any warning lights which you would expect for something like that.

i think theres a sensor that detects something which is outside its parameters of normal operation, and then disengages the clutch pack inside the t case, meaning no power to front axle (i think they still rotate tho, they just arent driven) i believe this is most frequently caused by fluid degradation, which would almost certainly lead to overheating. from what i understand, bmw came up with this failsafe because they know ppl arent going to change their T case fluid (as bmw doesn't recommend doing it)…however, bmw is a smart company, and they know there is no such thing as a lifetime fluid. they just do what is in their own best interest. if youre T case internals get chewed up enough, it will definitely throw a dash light. i guess this is BMWs attempt to decrease the chances of that happening
