What year / month?

Yes, a B47 would work with some creativity.

Eletrical could be diffrent aswell as marrying the ECU. N47T and B47 uses the same chain

Btw, @enabled What software did you use to tune your N47?

Some later N47 used the same ecu as the B47, so compatibility is very close.

Amazinjoey I used genuine WinOLS and lots and lots of testing and logging.

I don't really see the point of replacing for B47 since the timing chain configuration is basically the same. If your engine is not in disasterous condition, you could fix it and save a good amount of money. Ofc you need to tear it down and check.
On what mileage/km did it snap?

Whether there were any strange sounds before the accident, in which driving mode it happened?

Yes.rattling noises on cold start for 30 sec. random power loss.

I think it was on sport mode, manual shifting mode, middle of the throttle

How often did you change your oil, and with what type?

Every 10,000kms, it was Castrol Edge fully synthetic 5w40 and Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 Pure Plus Fully Synthetic now.

Sounds like a random failure, they do happen. Definitely a bummer.

Although I do wonder if oil choice may have contributed in some way, over time. I thought most LL-04 diesel oils are Xw30 rated, not Xw40. Perhaps the thicker viscosity may have created extra drag? All conjecture, I realize.

I would think there's a stronger correlation between timing chain issues and automatic/manual transmission and using auto start/stop systems

I mean, I know N47s (I have an F31 with that engine myself) have "random" timing chain issues but if it was rattling for so long on cold starts you should have got it fixed sooner. It is a well known fault after all. That's why timing chains on mine were replaced, although they lasted almost 110k miles before showing any signs of wear.

Anyways, as someone said before, it may not be a lost cause after all. It's worth checking the condition of the engine, may still be worth fixing
Replacing the N47 with a B47 sounds like more headache than it's worth tbh

It definitely is a bummer tho

Why would you put so much work into it?
As far as I know the chain should be replaced every 180k.
Buy 2nd hand N47 engine immediately change the chain and you can go 180k again.

Because I'm pretty sure he's just looking at whatever he can get in Sri Lanka.

Of course the easiest is to replace it with the same engine, but then he wouldn't be asking.

Janchu88 I just could recommend you an oil change. Since then my transmission is working fine again. Especially from 1st to 2nd gear
