Winter tyre options
I know we're not quite at that time of the year yet, but we're not far off either. I'm just trying to weigh up my options in terms of putting winter tyres on my F31 330d xDrive. I've got a couple of options -
Do I do the standard thing and buy a new set of winter wheels and tyres? Or As I currently have the standard 18" M Sport wheels, do I put winter tyres on them, then keep my eye out for a set of new summer wheels for next year (possibly 19's)? On a side note, 225/45/18 tyres are bloody expensive, considerably more than 225/40/18 and only just behind the 255 rears! What do you guys think? |

Check out the Winter tyre tests here:
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Tests/#winter I really wouldn't recommend the Vreds from how poorly they do in those tests, best to stick to the premium makes. |

Is it a bad idea to go with 255 width on winter tyres or would I be better buying narrower winter wheels?
Also slightly worried about all this talk about damaging xDrive transfer boxes, anything I need to consider? |

Go with 245 all-round, they're a cheap tyre size and fit the front and rear wheels perfectly.

agreed can be more cost effective but, they're circa 8mm diameter smaller than standard. If the car is already on ACS springs with a body kit may be problematical on ride height in the snow!

I had Hankooks as winters on my previous cars and they served me very well - you don't need to go for the big names like Pirelli.

Bought the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3. https://www.nokiantyres.com/non-stud...kapeliitta-r3/
Diamond-tough Cryo Crystal 3 grip particles that have the appearance of a multi-edged crystal have been added to the rubber compound in order to improve grip on ice by grabbing onto the driving surface. |

Yes you will be fine. I run 18" winter wheels with Michelin Alpins winter tyres and throughout last winter my 340 never looked like getting stuck, skidding under braking or cornering. Obviously as Long as you don't drive like a dick!

Actually 7mm, so the car will only be 3.5mm lower, don’t think that will make a difference!
