So, I took the plunge last week and bought a brand new MPE off BMW for £850 which I thought was a good price had had it fitted today.
I've been running the standard exhaust with the fuse out to keep the exhaust flap open that really told me to get the real deal as the drone in comfort mode was evident (not so much in Sport Plus) but I felt there was more to have judging by posts from other members cars. So off with the old one and on with the new, some pictures of the back box's side by side just so you can see the difference as I've not seen any comparisons on the web. My black tips wouldnt fit unfortunately so I used the new a chrome tips as supplied and not bad to be fair. Some of you may also want to know what the weight of each is and I can confirm that the Original is 11kg and MPE is 10kg that includes the clamp so a saving of 1kg. Once on the ramp fitting took 15 mins, straight cut through the pipe measured correctly, remove the old back box and refit the new one using the new MPE clamp supplied and tighten....that's it ladies and gents...but some of you may have noticed that there is a kink on the straight pipe, looks like the previous owner had reversed into something...however no issue for fitting purposes. Finally fuse back in to make sure everything is back to standard and tested.......WOW is all I can say....the sound in sport plus with the roof down is amazing and is exactly what I want, OEM quality and easy fitment and a fab sound without sounding like a boy racer. In Comfort mode it's virtually the same as the standard exhaust....brilliant and what a result! So all in all money well spent, warranty unaffected with OEM quality and a performance sound just like on You tube, a fantastic upgrade for the Convertible.

Nice.
I've had the MPE on my 130i (x2), my F31 328i and also my 340i before I went to MPPSK. It's a great addition.

Fully agree, it's changed the way I look at OEM performance parts from BMW.
I got quoted for a back box at about £450 custom made but the exhaust valve wouldnt be included. It gives so much control so when I'm on my own I can open it up and when the wife and kids are in for a trip out then put it into comfort mode. So versatile...

Now that's interesting, when did the MPE become valved? The one I had certainly didn't have it...and yes it droned on the M/way in comfort which is why I got rid of it.
This is my comparison... Last edited by Alscoob; 05-11-2021 at 03:20 AM.. |

Fuse 146 shared with Park assist if you have it. Put it into Sport plus then turn the engine off, pull the fuse and the valve will stay open. I had a drone in Comfort mode but came to life on Sport plus....with the MPE it's completely different experience 👍
