I'm 90% certain that the oil I'm seeing under my car (and up around my oil filter) is caused by the gasket failing, based on what I'm seeing throughout this forum. I'm considering doing it myself, but given that the temp is now in the teens in MN, I don't know that I want to spend 3-4 hours in my garage trying it on my own (it may be a 30-60 minute job, but I know I'll take 3-4x as long as a pro).

Whether I DIY or take it to a local shop, I want to have all of the parts ahead of time. I also want to avoid having my local indy mechanic use inferior parts (they're not specifically a Euro specialty shop). Would you recommend a complete kit like this? If not, could you point me in the direction of the best components to pick to get this service completed?

It looks like the ECS Tuning Kit is providing 2 different drain plugs & filter housing gaskets. ?? You might consider a kit from FCP Euro - with their lifetime replacement guarantee it's the last time you'll have to pay for these parts. A genuine BMW oil filter housing gasket is $25-30 alone. You can source your oil & filter locally or include it with the FCP order - then you can even send your old/used oil & oil filter back to FCP for free replacement.

Just the two separate OEM gaskets that go on either side of the OFHG.

If you have an oil cooler, some say you should replace the 2 o-rings on the oil cooler lines as well. Might as well if you're going to be in there anyways. They're cheap. Part #17222245358

I just did the gasket replacement today and it seems to have addressed the main oil leak issue I've been having. Will check again in a few days to confirm.

Crazy thing is, my last set of gaskets only lasted around 12k miles before springing another leak. That's what I get for using the cheapest ones I could find on Amazon. Word to the wise, spend the few extra bucks and get quality gaskets over the cheapo aftermarket ones or you'll have to change them again way sooner than you should. I didn't get OEM this time around, got the Mahle set, which I believe are OE quality. I guess time will tell. Hoping I won't have to think about it again for at least 40-50k miles.
