OFHG is $30 OE part and an easy diy. so knock off $780

Now youre at $2,000.

If you're a diy, you can probably do all of this for way less than $1000.

About how long do you think to DIY the OFHG? That shop/dealer sure estimated some serious labor hours. I've done it on my old (and gone now) E39 w/I-6 motor, not horrible but takes bit of time due to removing alternator and PS pump.

Maybe less work on newer motors?

Thanks/Bill

Very straightforward and accessible on the N20... doing mine next oil change.

Not positive of the location on the N55 but assume it's similarly located (not buried).

I would say a fair quote by a shop would be 3 hours of labor. I think i did mine in about 2 hours. I have done it on both of my cars. (N55 & N52)

Will do some of these things myself.. but why would they suggest I need to replace the coolant expansion tank?

Perhaps they pressure/leak tested the cooling system and the tank is leaking, good question for the service guy. These plastic tanks do crack internally and/or externally- heat under the hood and the hot coolant is hard on plastic.

OFHG is a little more time consuming on the N55 because one of the bolts on the engine side is blocked by the intake manifold.

Interesting.

Similar issue on the N20 where *technically* you need to/should take off the intake manifold but apparently can be done without doing so and just loosening the bolts on the OFH long enough to slip the gasket between the block and OFH.

The other gasket (cooler to OFH) is wide open and looks very simple to do.

Anyone with first hand experience or a quick DIY, please share!

How soon are you looking to do this, sspade? My leak seems to be getting worse and I'm 90% sure it's coming from my oil filter housing. Just ordered the gaskets. Should be here by next week.

900 miles at my next oil change. My gaskets are in the mail.

Next weekend or the following?

Want to do together?

I would if my leak wasn't getting progressively worse. Unfortunately, I'm probably gonna have to take care of it midweek as soon as I get the new gaskets.

I've had both OFHG and valve cover gasket replaced under CPO... No idea why it wasnt covered for OP or why they didnt just say "hey we changed this for you because we saw it, but you really need these replaced as well". Maybe it was a strategy to keep him from leaving with something replaced under cpo and getting the rest cheaper at and indy?

If the dealership is trying to say your car uses the 2015 rules, they're lying to you. Unless your CPO is expired, which it shouldn't be, but will be close, you should be getting all these things covered by CPO. You have 6 years from the original in-service date of your car for CPO. Period.

If you argue enough, they will usually cover some if not all of it. I hate that BMW allows dealers to make individual calls rather than a "on paper" coverage but it is what it is.

Other than that, I agree with the others, indy or tackle the job yourself.

Update:

I went to bmw over the weekend to talk to them about my warranty. and they said I have coverage for everything.. but I had to specifically talk to the service advisor I saw. I had to wait because he wasn't working.

Yesterday on the phone, the service advisor said and he didn't know I had CPO warranty coverage until March 2019. smh!

So everything is covered. I was just about to buy parts and do most of it myself haha. These dudes got me SHOOOOOK. 💀💀💀

I wonder what I have to pay out the door for though. service charges, maybe? hmm.

Good for you on getting it all sorted under CPO.. I can't see paying any "service" charges though?? For what?

BMW has never offered 4 Year CPO Warranties.

And the older CPOs (pre 2017) were very basic, unlike today’s Platinum Coverage. Basically, major parts like engine and drivetrain.

As part of the engine, a major component, I would think it would be part of the old basic CPO.
