How long does it take oil level to update?

Hello, I would appreciate some help.
I’ve had numerous issues with my oil level sensor, that I thought had been fixed until today.

My car: 2014 F30 335i Msport, MHD stage 2 tune and supporting mods

My main issue was my oil would always read full. I had the sensor replaced a few days ago, and it read 3/4 from full. I added about 200ml of oil today, drove about 15 mins, and it still reads 3/4. I miss the luxury of a dipstick. Has anyone had this issue before?

You normaly don’t fill bits.
Only fill if the car asked for it.
1 ltr and you will see it’s 100 % full again.

I just want to ensure that if I need to add oil, the car tells me. If something is not working right, it could cost me the engine if there’s a sensor related problem.

The gauge displays 0,94L from max to min. If you added 200ml, you need roughly 35ml more for it to go to max. However, it doesn't need to read max. It's the max line, not the required line. Mine sometimes displays 3/4 even after a precise oil change. This is because instead of it reading exactly 0,94L, it's reading 0,93L. I've messed about with oil so much that I've come to realize that it doesn't display max until it is precisely max by 1 small drop of oil. If one drop leaks out, it no longer shows max.

What comes to the car "telling you when it's time", it always doesn't. I had one instance with another BMW where it told me to quickly add 1 liter only after I manually did the oil level check. I would wager doing the check once a month manually is required.

Thank you so much for this response. I’m just so frustrated with the level sensor on this car. I check my level normally once a week, I’m just hopeful it’s somewhat telling the truth and if it ever drops below min it will tell me.

If the oil level goes critical you'll get low oil pressure and high oil temperature warnings.

Thank you that helps. I was hopeful the pressure sensor would give a warning before my engine blows in this situation

The oil pressure is far more important than the level. A full crankcase doesn't do much good if the oil pump is shot.

I’m assuming mine is fine I have no reason to think it’s not

You will get a warning if the oil level is at it’s minimum
Then you fill up with 1 ltr of oil.
After a short drive, when the oil is on temperature you will see it’s on max. again.
No worries.

Okay, thank you. I know that at one point the tune and sensor worked together with no issues but I know sometimes things change.

i guess only way to figure this out is to draiFor all the oil, measure the new oil and fill it in. Then, drive a couple of thousand miles, drain the oil, and measure drained and compare
