FBO/Tune Build Thread

So let's get right to it, my car is a 2014 335xi GT. Definitely not the average tune or bolt on car, but hey I like to be different. The car right now is getting close to 40k miles and is CPO'ed until 2020. I have decided to go the full bolt on route, and then flash tune the ECU to make the most out of this N55 engine.

The parts I am putting on are as follows:
  • VRSF De-catted Downpipe
  • BMS Intake
  • FTP Chargepipe
  • CTS Intercooler
  • Frank Smith ECU Flash Tune

I just wanted to start this thread to keep track of my progress, as well as show the potential of different tunes on the market. LET ME SAY NOW THAT I AM NO WAY SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANY. I am simply trying to give full information to everyone, so they can make a decision for themselves.

I plan to install the Intercooler and Chargepipe myself this coming Saturday, and then have a local shop help with the rest. I will be getting it dynoed as well before and after the tune plus bolt ons are installed.

If you have any suggestions or questions before I begin, feel free to let me know! I want this thread to be a discussion about different options on the market, but don't want it becoming one company bashing another.

Looking forward to your results. I paid way too much for a CPO car that's covered until late 2020 but after a year of driving around stock I'm absolutely miserable. FBO is in my near future so I'm anxious to see what TTFS can do.

Thanks for the recommendation but I'm going to stay with TTFS. On a side note, do you have any videos of your exhaust with the catless dp and res delete? Thinking about it after I hear how my DP sounds.

Told myself I wouldn't mod. Drove stock for 4 months and went full bolt on all in one day. Trust me. You'll never want to go back to stock again!

Update #1

Here are the pictures of the $200 chargepipe from FTP which was sourced through eBay. Looks like a genuine part with good welds and overall great build quality and finish. Would definitely recommend for its price point.

Update #2

I just opened up my Intercooler from CTS Turbo, and have to say I'm pretty impressed for the price. It cost me $360 through a group buy here with FSociety and I think it was worth it. Given the competition around $600, I think it was money well spent. Also this product claims to fit in the car without any modifications to the bumper so hopefully that stays true!

My only cons are that the welding work isn't superb, and the unit seems a bit heavy but I don't know how heavy the OEM one is so I'll check tomorrow and see the difference. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, and will update when I install this and the Chargepipe tomorrow after work!

I won't say anything since we'll probably see the vendors jumping on here to defend the products they sell. But CTS, Wagner, ActiveAutowerke8 and VRSF have some similarities.

Looks like VRSF welds are much worse.

Yup I've seen that as well, the CTS is an exact copy of the Wagner sport. I've had my Wagner for over a year now and besides the powdercoat flaking the performance is great at my power level.

Are you going to buy an exhaust too or at least a mid pipe? It seems there's a lot of potential there for our cars.

Cp looks good, even come with O rings. The only bad thing are those meddle clamps that wont tight as good as others with screw and nuts.

Yeah I'd try to see if you can maybe get some v-band clamps before you install.

FMIC also looks good. I got mine installed a week or so ago and definitely feel the difference. It required no modifications for me, just needed to finesse the under guard a bit. You'll realize how puny the stock one really is once you take it out. I couldn't believe it...has to have been only 8-9lbs maybe.
