Extended warranty on F30 N20/N26 timing chain and oil pump chain

The other forum has a thread saying BMWNA now provides extended limited warranty on N20/N26 timing chain and oil pump chain. If true it is pretty good, not as good as recall but definitely better than nothing!

7years/70,000 miles is not much of a gamble for BMW if you think about it. Chain guides have been letting go near or after the 70K mark. So they are basically just hedging their bets and giving customers that feel good feeling about their car.

That is true, the worries will return while approaching 7-yr/70k-mile mark.

This was one issue that made me looking into ESCs, which were skipped due to high costs. So at least this ELW will provide peace of mind.

Another thing to note is, this ELW has no payout limit, meaning a blown engine caused by stretched timing chain will still be replaced at no charge, while the ESC won't pay more than the NADA value of the car.

When I bought mine, I had it CPO?d because of the chain guide issue. It was piece of mind for me and covered far more than any extended service contract for the same price.

I wonder though, how many claims will they wiggle their way out of by claiming regular oil changes weren?t done or some other kind of BS excuse.

And what hell is with the app and all these random punctuation marks in replies?

No worries, now your car has double coverage, ELW, and ESC, for timing chain.

BTW, local foreman said stretched timing chain may trigger CEL too, as camshaft timing will be messed up. So if yours is N26 with PZEV coverage, the timing chain issue can be covered under emission warranty too.

Try putting a single quote, the app registers it as a question mark

A poster in the other forum reported that his late-2014 produced MY15 also showed up on bmw-rp.com, so maybe the ELW includes up to 1/2015 N20/N26.

It looks like even 2016 328i N26 is covered, so maybe BMWNA extends coverage to all N20/N26. Do go on bmw-rp.com to confirm.

Yes, 7-yr/70k-mile starts from in service date, e.g. purchased Feb 1, 2013, ELW will last till Feb 1 2020.

It is unclear how mileage works, e.g. if car is sold with 10 miles on it, my assumption is the ELW will last till 70010 miles, right?
