Wow what an awesome looking car this is!

Admittedly the huge grilles will take a bit of getting used to, but this is just the way all new BMW's are now.

Want one!

Carwow have just done a video of it.

If I am honest I am a touch underwhelmed. The front has shades of Mercedes SL from some angles, while the back end is an evolution rather than a revolution. The elegant simplicity of the 6 has gone with these 'busy' gills and angles, plus the rear overhand just looks a bit too bulky. Sorry, it's a 'no' from me..... (I'll get my coat).

(That's not to say I wouldn't have one if it was free)

Looks like hardly any rear overhang to me!?

I can kinda see the allure. Personally I think the old 8 series land shark destroys it.
I think the subtle bulges on the lines make it look pudgy. But I think that about most modern cars...all look like bubbles.

That's a pretty sexy looking car .. although a little big for everyday use on our narrow streets and certain cramped tight car parks.

Maybe it's the height of the rear end, just looks slightly too much like from this angle...

Once I see it in the flesh in a showroom, no doubt I'll want one!

Only thing I’d say is that the diffuser is a bit bulgy and ungainly looking, but no doubt BMW left some room for improvement there so that people will buy the M Performance diffuser!

It was a great looking car in it’s day, but come on mate, it’s like comparing a Nokia 5110 to an Iphone X!

I like it. Presumably a new 840d with a £76k list will be discounted to £50k new within months, £45k new in a couple of years, and high 30s new in about 5 years...

Looks great but agree the rear looks a bit too stretched out imho.

Looks pretty decent, and seems to hide its size quite well, and generally a good stance and proportions.
There's a few bits the look a bit fussy perhaps, but nothing too off-putting.

What I do like is that is that there's no mistaking it's a BMW, but no mistaking it for another model or generation, so it has some character perhaps. Which is more than I can say for the larger Mercs and Audis.

Really really like it, but check out the crappy photoshop job BMW did on their press pics to hide the real exhaust!

I don't know why they bothered, it doesn't look bad in person:

I think looks incredible if they are going to do the same deals that they did on the 640d on the 840d I'd be very tempted to man math myself into one.

However I must resist and get a leased golf GTD instead!

It does look incredible but I think they could have done a better job with the interior. Especially with the new 3 series sporting most of the new cabin tech...
