Not sure what to do!
I bought my f30(320d msport) seven months ago and up untill a couple of weeks ago was happy with it, then I found out it was not the ex bmw manager car I was told it was when I bought it but an ex thrifty hire car!!!!!
So after going back to the dealer and asking for my money back was told they would get me one that was. After a few days of searching the sytner group stock I found a 320i in eb2 six months newer than mine with half the mileage and the msport plus package, but £1000 more. So my question is..... do you think I should be expected to pay the extra or should they? |

Go to citizens advice, used them a few years ago when a dealer sold us a car with faults, changed there tune dramatically when they got the officially worded letters that CA sent us for templates.

I had a 530D from an accident exchange company for a couple of months and out of interest I watched for it to appear on the approved used site. I asked the dealer about the history and was told it was an BMW management car. I actually think the dealer didn't know it's true origin, they had bought it through the internal auction system.

Yeah, the only reason I am considering it is I have had the car seven months and put 5k miles on it, they are giving me the £22.5k I paid for it and the other one was up for £23.5k
But I am starting to wonder should I be paying for there mistake!? |

Steve, other than its previous owner are you still happy with the car? If so why look too change. Assuming that you are happy I would be looking for some means of recompense from the dealer as they have clearly deceived you and their deceit will quite possibly affect the future value when you come to sell.
Assuming they didn't know then they should have said so rather than feeding you bull. |

I think if you've done 5K miles for nothing you've done okay to be honest. Also sounds like the £1k is a bargain for the newer / lower mileage / better spec car.

They did something similar with me, I never paid for the car and told them to sue me for the balance! They backed off and I went elsewhere. They know where the car has come from, but lie! They were telling me its still a one owner car, I said would you consider that when I come to sell it to you....

Pay the 1K and get the new car with better spec, BUT, ask for a servicing pack FOC (and any other goodies they can throw in the claw the 1K back)
If you've put 5K on your car and they are buying back at original cost you're doing ok. But I'd get as much out of them in way of extras for the 1K change over.

Are you sure you want to switch from a 320d to a 320i?
It would at least have been one main driver, and someone who drives new BMW's all the time. Rental car is far more likely to have been thrashed from cold continually.

The salesman I talked to said the dealer principal curbed all 4 wheels the first day she got her 7 series, why would a manager care about a car they don't own?

When was the last time you saw a hire car being thrashed? There are tens of thousands of hire cars on our roads. If they were all hammered you'd see it every day. That said, for £1k, take the offer and run. Its a no brainer even of you were 100% happy with the car. |

Do some homework, the vast majority of people who buy ex rentals have a good experience. Sure there are exceptions however that can happen regardless. As said before if you do decide to keep then I would be looking for a cash settlement off the dealer. If they aren't willing to do that then let them get you a replacement car at their expense. |
