Speeding!

Been caught speeding doing 35 in a 30 in an area with no houses or anything. The van wasnt even in the 30 zone! Are they allowed to park in a 40 zonebut then lookback into a 30 zone?

Sounds like you'll have to suck it up. Not the worst crime in the world but if you're over, you're over.

Unlucky.

Yes they can but only if there are speed camera signs in the area of that road.

If your over, your over. Easily done, as said you may get an awareness course offering which will mean no points and just the fine.

Live in North Wales, the speed camera capital of the UK, and you still get caught for speeding ?

Sorry, no sympathy at all. Suck it up, and in future, pay attention and stay at or under the limit.

Bottom line is the police can rape you for speeding whenever and where ever they like...

About ten years ago, I was out for a bike ride, up in the hills with a friend.
Friend was in front.
Next thing I know, a wooden top pops out from behind a bush in his car, follows us and flags us down.

Says his sophisticated speed measuring equipment (a stopwatch ) has timed us between two points at 83 mph in a national speed limit.

Due to the undulating topography there was no way he had sight of the 'two points'. Books my friend, and tells me, he'd have booked me as well ,if he'd had two stopwatches. I told him I'd see him in court.

Friend elects to go to court certain of his case. Takes evidence with him and gets six points instead of three and double the fine for the audacity of taking the case to court......

And they wonder why I wouldn't piss on a traffic wooden top if he was on fire.

35 in a 30 first time should mean a speed awareness course option. Of course you can elect to take the points or go to court instead.

Personally I would take the course and move on, which is exactly what i recently did for my heinous crime of 79 in a 70 along with 22 other Middle aged ladies and gents taking a Friday afternoon off work for tea, biscuits and chats... However It's not exactly life altering stuff and sorry to disappoint but you won't get lifelong notoriety and fame as a big time criminal for it.

Few years ago, I was caught doing 32 in a 30, in East London - elected for the course, even though it meant travelling down from Sheffield, taking day off etc.

Was told course only offered if doing 32 or possibly 33mph AND first offence - any higher then just points and fine.

May be different now and/or vary by police force. I think you can google speed awareness course and check the criteria. If you do get course and speed again within set time, no course next time.

There does not have to be camera signs! I got done on a road that didn't have any, so I looked into it and it's only 'guidelines' not mandatory.

Just like the whole 10% plus 2 mph is just guidelines!

Yep, next village down from me has a 40 going into a 30. They park a van in the 30 zone, but can only catch you for going over 40...of course. You are allowed some slowing distance after the sign, 100 meters or so. I doubt this is a law, but is the reason they don't fine for exceeding 30, which they could well do as they park a good 300m from the 30 sign.

The above is because there is a school in the 30 zone, and many whizz right past at 60 as it is a main road otherwise. And there's people thinking they are only out to get money. Wankers.

If I recall correctly you can get offered the course up to 38 in a 30. I had to do one recently for going 36 in a 30. its a bit of a ball-ache but actually quite interesting. You can also choose the closest location to you for the course on their website.

This is where i washeading down the hill and the van was at the bottom where the 40 starts. Think i got distracted by my daughter being a pain in the back seat and drifted over going down the hill

Same here HUD and speed limit, hope it's going to work well.

Few harsh replies to @Zippeh yes he was a little over but we've all been there. Just cos you live in North Wales doesn't make you immune.

32 is harsh! In roadworks I set my limiter at about 54 in a 50 as car speedos are always a little optimistic. Sounds like the limit of interpretation is reeling in to zero tolerance.

The guidelines state that when a speed limit changes to a lower maximum you should not prosecute for exceeding the lower speed within 100 metres of the change, but this does not apply when moving to a higher limit so they can quite happily sit in the 40 and ping back to the 30.

In order to get around the lower limit rule you'll notice 30 limits being pushed out further and further from village boundaries.

It's worth noting the lower limit change rule applies to motorways too and hence the outer limit marker of managed motorways is highly unlikely to have cameras.

These are only guidelines though
