Grinding noise from power steering

Hi folks,

So today it was really cold up here in the north, about -25C or -13F (thank god for my garage). Anyways, after driving for about 20 minutes I noticed a grinding noise with an occasional clank whenever I would turn my steering wheel. The noise happens when the vehicle is moving or stationary.

Here's a video (you may need to turn up the volume):

It sounds almost like driving slowly on packed snow but in this case the pavement is bone dry. Could this be electric steering making noise when really cold?

All input is appreciated!

Your vid is private. I have a similar noise when it's really cold. I did think just like you that it sounded like packed snow. But it was dry. And after a couple turns it goes away. When the weather warms up it stops doing that.

Thanks for the input! vid corrected.

In my case it didn't go away and was there for the next 20 minutes until I got to my destination

My guess is that plastics and other materials tend to contract/expand in cold temps and that probably has an effect on the steering. Surfaces that are normally not in contact are now in contact through expansion. In my case it seems to go away quickly, maybe because of turning on the heat or just the music, since I'm blasting music on all of my drives

i have the same issue but not in the cold weather since i'm in So Cal. 1st time i brought it up, they said it was some lubrication issue. After applied some lubs, it comes back. They finally agreed to replace some module inside the steering wheel so i'm bring it back to service this week.
