Off-topic: Show me your office chair!
Hi, apologies for posting in here, but thought it would be better for me to get UK based responses!
I'm in desperate need of a new office chair, need to be supportive & I'd particularly like support right up to the back of the knee much like the Beemer sports seats give. What chair can you recommend? I work from home, using for 6-9hrs per day. Pics of your daily chair welcome Thanks in advance |

Try a Herman Miller Aeron http://www.hermanmiller.com/products...on-chairs.html
Not that cheap but very comfortable! John Lewis stock them if you want to try it out. Lots of Chinese ripoffs available and also sold on ebay (what isn't?) |

+1 on Herman Miller, but the price is a bit bitey.
I would suggest going to a store that has lots to try. What might be very comfy to me, might be awful to the next guy. They all say orthopedic this and ergonomically shaped that, blah, blah, blah. |

I've got this one from IKEA
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101/ Great lumbar support, full length backrest (I'm 5'10" and the back of my head rests comfortably against the headrest), adjustable recline with lock. During assembly you can set the space between the seat and backrest so you should be able to setup an ideal leg support. You can also opt to leave the armrests off if you don't want them. |

Thanks guys...I understand what you mean about one chair could be great for one person and not the next!!
I've looked at the Aeron before, but never tried one. Sure my old place of work use to get these for the more important people in the office!! Must go and try one |

I use all manner of different ones at various customer offices but when working from home I've started using a standing desk and it's much better than sitting in a chair all day. I was very sceptical at first but after doing it for a few days I was amazed at how much better my back felt and how much more energy I had after a days work.

a +1 for a Herman Miller Aeron Chair, very pricey but H&S think we're worth it.

There's some ex display as new ones on ebay for £550 though, bit of a no brainer if you're going to buy one!

I've had these before, they're good for home but not great if you're in the office in a suit each day as they really wear away at the material. My vote still goes for standing up and working.

I think it depends on fitness levels/age. It might take some people a little while for their knees to get used to it but as long as you invest in decent foam mat to stand on (or when trialling it a couple of folded yoga mats do the trick) you shouldn't notice any aches or pains from day one.

So I have a Herman Miller in my office office and the IKEA one in my home office. I find the IKEA one more comfortable.
I think this proves you have to try them! While it may look strange the standing desk is perfect - I used one for a few years when I was based on Scandinavia and they are so much less fatiguing. Doesn't work at home since my girls use the desk at the weekend!
