BMW officially changed oil type for F8X

Looks like BMW is officially recommending 0W-40 for the F8X now.

The pdf manual at BMWUSA has 0W-40 as the recommended oil (with 0W-30 as an acceptable substitute).

The manual in the BMW Drivers Guide app, and the OEM manual that came with my M4 recommends 0W-30 (with 5W-30 as acceptable substitute).

I'm going to put the new M Twinpower Turbo Shell 0W-40 in my car this weekend since I have 5W-30 in there right now from the 1200 mile service and I was planning to do an in between oil change soon anyways.

Here is the BMW part number for the BMW/Shell M Twinpower Turbo 0W-40 oil: 83212365945

Strange they would change but if you drive hard in heat this may offer bit more protection. Probably not huge diff

Yea, I don't expect it to make a huge difference. I plan on keeping my car for a long time so consider this babying it

To add the new oil is $3 or $4 dollars more per quart even with a CCA discount.

Must be better then?

Mobil 1 makes a 0w40 oil that is the same price as all the other Mobil 1 oils. It is fully certified to all European standards.

Pretty soon it'll be pulling up to a car wash. Press this button for anything with 4 wheels ($10)...press this button for an M ($20) for equal washing...#mtax
