2016 BMW 340i (F30 LCI) to feature approximately 321 HP
BIMMERPOST NEWS 2016 BMW 340i to feature approximately 321 HP The F30 3 Series LCI (facelift refresh) is coming soon, with production beginning in July -- when the 335i will be renamed the 340i. Naturally, one of the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming 340i is how much power its new B58 3.0L turbo 6 cylinder engine (replacing the current N55 engine) will deliver. Based on a 340i prototype's information, courtesy of trusty member ynguldyn, that figure should be approximately 321 HP. The following chart shows a 340i prototype's power as 240kw, which translates roughly to 321 horsepowers. For comparison, the current 335i makes 300hp. Figures can always change from prototype to production models, but we wouldn't expect it to be much. It also shows a new color being available - Mediterranean Blue, which can be seen on the 2 Series Active Tourer. As for cosmetic changes, the F30 will feature a restyled front bumper, deeper inset headlights and shapelier kidney grilles. Adaptive LED headlights will be available on the 3 Series for the first time, the corona ring / angel eyes will receive a new shape, and there will be new full LED tail lights. Photos of these changes can be seen in the prototype spy photos below. As for the 328i, it will become the 330i next year (2016) and its N20 engine will be replaced by the B48 engine at that point. |

These all sound like positive changes. I have also read there will be some suspension tuning to provide a "more dynamic driving experience" without degrading the ride.

Agreed. It's hard to say without driving the car because all these engines seem to be really underrated now. But on their face, those numbers are simply not very impressive for a next generation engine after, what, 8 model years of the N55?

N55 went into production in 2009, but most vehicles (3 series) started seeing it during the 2011 model year.

Engine seems nice. Everyone should know that BMWs I6 is better than anything the competition has, and hell, its underrated, every enthusiast knows that. I am sure the new B58 will be a step up over any competition. What I am concerned about is the interior. The C-class has the lead there, theyre faux-leather interior looks and feels better than BMWs leather... And I hope that BMW doesnt leave it as it. They should take the faux-leather approach too. Feels and looks like leather, but is cheap.

That's nice but what the 340 needs is to find is soul not just more power. It's not underpowered right now. It's under sprung, under steering feel, under whelming sound and just all around blah now except for styling. It looks great but hot outside masks somewhat hollow feel. That needs to be the focus not just new hp figures in my humble opinion.

Wow, and a 4 liter inline 6! Wait, it isn't? Oh, right. BMW just randomly names cars now instead of the "old" method of providing numbers that actually meant something about the displacement of the engine. Come on BMW, you had a chance to make this right! Next is the 350? Eventually you'll run out of numbers and go back to 0 I guess.

So it's going to be $1,000 (Lighting Package) + $1,900 (LED's) = $2,900 to get LED's on my base 328? Come on, BMW.
