My Dinan4x

A little over a year of mods after purchasing my 2014 435x MSport, and I figured enough has changed that it warranted a new build thread.

Living in Colorado, I wanted a DD that was AWD – but I wanted to also have additional performance on that platform. With that, and the recent install of Dinan Stage 2 and springs, here is my Dinan4x:

Alpine White / Black Dakota Leather

+ Dinan Stage 2
+ M Performance Power Kit (MPPK)
+ Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake
+ Dinan Free Flow Exhaust w/Black Tips
+ Dinan Performance Spring Set
+ Dinan Bump Stops
+ Dinan Shockware
+ DHP / Adaptive M Suspension
+ M Sport Brakes
+ M Performance Grills with painted, body-color surrounds
+ Painted Front and Rear Reflectors
+ Technology Package
+ Premium Package
+ Cold Weather Package
+ Harman Kardon Sound System

Early returns on the upgrade from MPPK to Stage 2 + MPPK are that the low-end power and jump is much improved and noticeable compared to just the MPPK. In Sport Mode (only way I drive the car), it wants to go. The Carbon Fiber intake sound is equivalent to the “spooling” that I got with the MPPK airbox with a K&N filter – more pronounced and audible than the stock airbox & filter.

As for the Dinan Springs and xDrive combination, the handling is significantly improved. The combination of Shockware and Springs/Bumps makes the car handle like a go-kart. No body roll whatsoever. Sadly, this highlights the weakest link in the equation – my crappy RFT. The car dropped 1 1/8” in the rear and 7/8” in the front – a touch more than advertised on Dinan’s site in both cases. Only downside is that the bass-ackwards rake of the xdrive is still there and actually 1/4” inch worse. That said, the car looks WAY better squatted a bit and the aforementioned handling improvement has me very happy with it.

Only possible mods left on the list are:
- Gloss Black Roof Wrap
- Summer Wheels with Performance Rubber
- M Performance Rear Spoiler in AW
- Charge Pipe Swap
- Reverse Camera retrofit (the only thing I didn’t spec that I regret leaving off…)

Looks great!

Spacers would further improve the stance.

I agree and appreciate the feedback. Unsure if I am going to add spacers or just decide on some aftermarket wheels - which will definitely be wider than stock to fill in the gap that spacers would otherwise address.

Thanks, man. I am happy with it - wish the front was 1/2" lower, but my primary reason for the drop was performance, not stance. I am ecstatic in regard to performance - the difference in feel and handling now vs. when I purchased is night and day.

Looks awesome man.. I am hoping some day we can buy a lowering spring perch for the front like you could with e9x.. That would fix the stance issue.

Mind if I ask how much you paid for installation of the spring?
I heard it's quite expensive for installation fee if you do it at dealership.
Or did you get it done at someplace else?

If you decide to get spacers, go with 12mm front and 18 rear.

Appreciated. When it comes to wheel and tire size and fitment, no matter how many threads I read to get acclimated, I end up more confused than when I started. I may just forego spacers and find a wheel wider than stock to fill the void, but that's a topic for another thread/sub forum I suppose. Need to rebuild the marital capital balance to fund the next wave of mods; I just made a huge withdrawal with this last list.

Understood man, shoot me a pm or an email and I will send you pics. I want to get wheels eventually, but can't make up my mind on which set to buy, so ended up getting spacers to fix the look.

Very nice..... We pretty much have the same build. Except I have it on a 335. Only diff is I put a AR Design catless DP. Sound is amazing.... Not sure on the bump in HP. Mod guy says 10%. I really don't know. But the sound is awesome.

A few recent updates. Better pics as soon as the weather gets and stays clear long enough for a really thorough wash.

* Wrapped the roof in gloss black
* Wrapped the support braces behind the grilles in blue to match the brakes and interior trim (very subtle)
* Wrapped all the interior hex aluminum trim with DINOC ca-421

My ER charge pipe and retrofit reverse camera are in-hand and awaiting install when I get some time in the garage.
