So I'm almost done modding everything on my F30 and I decided it's time for a little extra power, stock is getting a bit boring and underwhelming.

So only question I have for you guys is should I do a PPK 1st since I've read great things about how it makes the car more responsive, smoother and burbles more pronounced and then add a JB4 or just skip straight to JB4?

Benefits and cons to both? I'm very interested in the JB4 now since I read there is no longer any splicing required it's straight plug and play.

Not looking to run anything crazy just pretty much tune and intake and later perhaps a downpipe if i want a nice exhaust tone.

Thanks in advance

If you do downpipe, JB4 all the way. If you care more about warranty and a small bump over stock do the PPK but you will get more value from JB4 and extras!

I mean I can always unplug the JB4 right? Especially now that the tuner doesn't need splicing...for warranty work.

How about te smoothness factor how is it? And is there any benefit having PPK and jb4 stacked?

I'm definitely planning a downpipe down the road bit everyone says do the JB4 1st.

And can jb4 stop CEL from coming on?

Getting PPK and JB4 is a waist of money.
Either get one or the other. PPK for the warranty, JB4 for the power, support and upgrades.

I would pick the JB stage 1 and just remove it before the dealership visit.

Oh ok, thanks for chiming in. So is the JB4 detectable by the dealership even after removal? Seems to be a controversial topic from the info I've seen on here. Someone stated that with the newer JB4's there is no tapping or splicing. If thins is the case there is no way anyone can ever know you had it installed right.?

Sorry I'm pretty new to the JB tuners and tuning in general for BMW's other then cosmetic.

From my understanding it's only the BMS Stage 1 that has no tapping/splicing. To take advantage of JB4 map 2 you need to run 93 oct fuel or higher + downpipe.

For that reason I went with BMS stage 1 and it's awesome! I had the same debate of ppk but decided to save the $$$ and go straight to the tune.

If JB4 in fact no longer requires tapping/splicing than I'm interested in upgrading and getting a DP. The CEL is the only thing holding me back from a DP.

Here is the email from Ando @BURGER
We exchanged emails back and forth. I'm assuming thins is no tapping.

Yeah, no splicing anymore. Lots of info on n54 tech.com. The obdii gives more control then tapping the canbus.

Beautiful that's what I wanted to hear! Sign me up ASAP

And the best part is it can't be detected by the dealer!

I just did JB4 w/ OBD2 to compliment my DP. No splicing whatsoever. Nice bump in power.

I did NOT do the EWG connector or FF but will in the future.

I'll add this, be sure you have the right OBD2 firmware on the JB4 board.

Not familiar with this, what exactly is the EWG and FF? What are they used for?
Thanks, I'll ask about the latest firmware.

That's awesome! Looks like it's time for an upgrade!

But only thing is I'm using a V1 with Savvy which plugs into the OBD, is there a way to split into 2 plugs?

In other words what does the FF do. I know EWG electric waste gate. What are the benefits of the connector going to it? I have the mechanical WG.

FF allows jb4 to control fuel rail to adjust mixture when running higher boost and or blended fuel.

Keeps AFR within safe limits.

Yes, this is what I learned from Bee Pee as well. Not necessary but highly advised for the added benefits.

Are these connectors or taps? Do the already come part of the jb4 harness or purchased separately?

I'll explain this the best I can. The FF wires are already part of the harness and they have connectors on them, NO TAPS. These are just like the TMAP and MAP set-up.

The EWG harness is an "add-on" harness with connectors that you would need to place the pins into the DB25 where the main harness connects to the board.

+1

With the new OBD harness there is no more CAN splicing (Posi Taps) So now with the JB4 there really is no trace (Physical evidence) once removed.

The OBD Harness also gives you the steering wheel controls, similar to what the JB has on the N54.
