Msport 640d GC, 650GC or M6 GC?

So, my mate has bitten at the 6GC today.
Have been trying to open his eyes into the possibilities of other cars as he has a deposit down for a new Tesla. 78k order and he has until Wed to get his deposit back.

Have been all over Nottingham dealers today, looked at the Polestar V60 Volvo, very nice....they actually have one pre registered at 45k. That seriously tempted both of us!
Looked at a few Jags, including the Ftype. Nice, but too impractical for him.
Mercs, all the nice ones that would give him what he'd get from the Tesla were over budget at nearly 100k.
Nissan GTR, again stonking motor, but not quite nice enough and think his mrs would hate it.
Last stop BMW. Mainly for me to look at the 61 plate M3 Coupes they have in, and another new 4GC....Must...stay....strong.

BUT, couldnt get him out of the 6GC. Awesome car. I'd have one in a heartbeat if I could afford one, but meh, I cant!
He can, so sat with the dealer and went through figures on 2 new ones.
Both specced to the hilt to match what he would get on his Tesla.

They have a 640d GC there, but he wanted figures on the faster 650 as well that would closer match the Tesla performance.
To try and cut this down, both new ones are almost on the mark deal wise, then I asked about the 2nd hand M6 GC they have there. 5k on the clock so its taken its hit already, 66k price. High spec with carbon ceramic brakes also.
Took us out in it, only to the undercover 2nd hand arear where it was dry, but oh the sound of it.
So, thats cheaper for him, faster than the Tesla he's ordered, where now?

Pros with all are obvious, the cons are he has to fork out for fuel, the M6 being the thirstiest. Servicing on it is also going to be a bit of a hit unless they can work a deal out.
Main con is its likely to attract unwanted attention sat on his drive, plus its RWD and a monster. I'd scare my self in this, he deffo will, hence he's asked can he get a 640 or 650GC in Xdrive?

Personally I think for what he wants he may be better going for a new 640/50 GC Msport+ with Xdrive (if they do it, not sure?) and the performance isnt going to be far off the M6 or Tesla.
However, the fact that the M6 is cheaper with 5k on the clock, makes it a VERY VERY tempting deal.
I was dribbling and ready to purchase it, then had a reality check.
A no brainer for me, but I'm not him and we have different priorities. I totally see his point about it maybe a "little too desirable" and get unwanted attention, but its a 100k motor at a cheaper price for him.

So, with all you knowledgeable chaps on here, could some of you please offer some insights, opinions and possibilities that we may have overlooked today.
i.e. what do most think would be the more sensible choice.
Knowing him as I do, he's never really going to drive it to any extremes, but he likes his straight line squirts....if you get the idea from a Tesla order, its no performance car, but it is in straight lines, refined, smooth, etc.

Sounds like the M6 is really not what he needs!

Is it a cash deal? Apr on a used car will be a lot higher....

There are great deals on a new m5.

Or there is a lease deal on a new s8 floating around for peanuts.

I don't think you can get a 6er c drive in the UK?

Thanks guys, I just wondered if I've maybe posted this in the wrong forum section? (I'm so used to posting in here now!)

He has 35k cash deposit, plus his px, so hes looking at putting 50k down. Problem being they will only allow a 40% deposit, but its not a prob, ways and means etc.

Do any of us "NEED" an M6?!
I saw his face, sold, but there are big "BUTS" and ones I understand as previously mentioned. Getting messed with, wheels nicked, house being broken into for keys, etc.
Crap things to have to consider, but all really very vaild.

He needs to look at depreciation.

Some of these cars do loose a hell of a lot of cash.

Investing a big chunk of cash and then leasing may be best option.

We all need an M6 or M5! For me it's the 'sane' choice. Why go with a more expensive car like the milk float which excites him less? The cost of fuel tends to be over-emphasised in these calculations, when in reality depreciation is the big hit.

I made the mistake of watching that Top Gear episode where they took a GTR, an M6 GC, and a Cheshire Special to Australia. The M6 GC was an absolute star and even Clarkson who likes to find fault with most cars, fell for it. It does look fantastic too.

I'm not convinced that the M6 is any more or less likely than the others to attract problems.

I ddon't don't mean 'needs' in the sense that I think he should go get a 318d, but that given the sounds of things theM6 performance wise would be kind of wasted, and he may just come to see it as something which is costing him a lot without him getting the upside. For some the upside would be the kudos and cachet of the badge but sounds more like this would actually just be stress for all the reasons already outlined.
And that's a shame really.

On Friday it was raining whole day !Was driving up to London from Poole when I realised how annoying S drive can be on wet surface . We went with Mrs's 225d , I drove and was suprised that wheels were spinning at traffic light even though did not flat it . Weird...

It's much more pleasure to drive on dry than mine though!

As he is only getting an M6 and it's only 50k, he does.

Or would be looking at over 100k cars.
