Cracked stereo buttons

Has anybody had these replaced or the whole head unit replaced under warranty? They cracked on my 2013 F30 after a few months but have gone pretty much straight away on my new one.

Is there much point in getting them done if they'll just crack again?

Never had this problem myself, nor heard of it here. Pictures?

It's only really noticeable at night when they light up.

Just noticed it today on one button. I'll probably hang on a while and get it replaced close to the end of the warranty period, or sooner if it gets much worse.

Nuts, How did you manage that?
the buttons only require lightest touch not sating that hit the buttons hard or anything.

No idea some of them I've hardly used, reading around it seems to be pretty common, same with the 1 series.

Got the same on number 2. I assumed I had scratched it somehow. Bugger, my car is outside of warranty now.

got that on mine too. I don't think it's the buttons actually cracking, rather the black paint behind splitting with the heat.

Not though of getting it changed but perhaps I will.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Odd occurrence all the same.

Never ever used my buttons, but definitely checking them now as it does not appear to be an isolated fault. Could it be a heat problem?

Button 4 on mine, but that's preset to kiss fm, so I thought maybe it was the devil telling me not to listen to it, so I don't anymore

It's not bothered me but if I see any on more buttons I'll have it replaced!

All 3 my F30's did this, my latest car I only use nr 6 for my trip computer - its the only one cracked...

Im thinking its got something to do with "oil" or something that gets transferred from your hands. Ive also stopped using any oily treatment on the dash to clean - only use Turtle Wax Leather cleaner - aloe based - on the dash and components and it would seem like the buttons are holding up - apart from the one that gets used daily.

Actually annoying - after reverse it shows the main menu and not the last menu - think the PDC is returning to the incorrect screen after use - only on audio screen does it return to audio after PDC. Hence the fact that I am pressing my programmed button every day to return to my desired last screen.

Any case - It can only be that as the others that does not get used at all does not crack

You are correct Sir, it is the oil from your fingers that cause the black plastic (which is under a high amount of stress as it is an overmoulding) to crack.

No, it's just a duplication of functions from the iDrive or steering wheel. Am I missing out on something then?

They are programmable short cuts, navigate home, call home, call work, etc.

Also happened on mine after a few months. Replaced with no hassle under warranty and the replacement buttons did feel slightly thicker and more substantial, but still worked fine.

I'd show them this thread and ask for it as goodwill. Quite feasible they had cracked when still under warranty as it's not immediately visible, especially in daylight - far more obvious when back lit at night.
