Fitted EBC yellow stuff pads today- poor initial bite cured

Title of the thread says it all. I'd always found the brakes to have what felt like too much of a dead zone on initial travel and poor initial bite. Fitted the EBC Yellow stuff pads today and that's completely vanished. Nice immediate bite but still easy to modulate. Not tried any big stops as yet, but having previously used them on the track MX5 I've no doubts they will be great.

Thoroughly recommended for the spirited drivers.

Yes I agree - very nice firm bite to them.

Am I right in thinking that the Bugger m sport brakes need to be coded in and several have not had this done and helps rectify some of the issues ???

Edit - you got to love autocorrect should say bigger not Bugger m sport brakes

Well done Terry. Any grinding, squealing, etc ?

I have a little squeal but the guy who fitted it says it's because there's a faint lip from the previous pads which will disappear as the new ones groove their own, which is likely causing it.

We could never get enough people with them fitted to share their coding to say for sure. I bitch about mine and my coding was different to others, but others weren't what it was supposed to be either.

I've had my discs and pads replaced under warranty and it's a bit better, but still a bit spongy.

Wouldnt touch EBC to replace them though, not since I used them on my old Impreza and 2 separate sets of their discs warped with their red stuff pads.

Yellows are 100 X better than the reds & a lifetime improved from 10 years ago chap. Reds were shite from cold & no stopping power. Yellows are as Terry reports.

Yes I found the same with reds, but had good experience with the yellows before.

Yeah the reds were poor from cold but with a bit of heat in were impressive. More for me was that I used their disc's and they weren't up to the job with their pads (even dropping down from Red to Yellow), some serious R&D failing... Put me off the brand for life unfortunately, better now or not. Plenty of alternatives.....

Dropping from red to yellow? Yellow was a higher performance (track day) pad than the road bias reds.

Shittiest pads I ever used were DS2500's. Left awful pad deposits on discs & loads of vibration because of this.

Sorry - meant Greenstuff, more road based, still warped their own discs! (all bedding in procedures provided followed to the letter)

Its what EBC told us to do And yet they still warped their discs!

I'm sure they've moved on in that time (bloody hope so!!!), I'm just pointing out that after my experiences I'd never use them again, each to their own.

Understand how you feel, but warping discs can happen really easily. In fact if you use the brakes really hard, you are almost certain to warp the discs, and it won't have anything to do with pads fitted.

Hi Terry,

Good to know, agree on the lack of bite.

Did you fit them all round or just the fronts? Might go for these when mine come up for renewal. Assuming the pads are different for cars with the bigger front calipers, my car doesn't have the MSport+ spec brakes.

Yes, just went with fitting them all round even though the rears still had plenty life in them.
