The 340 has been out as a MY2016 for almost a year already, so it's not first year.

I think that's why he wants a 2017 model. 2nd year = better luck for him, apparently.

Simply a being a 2017 does not necessarily mean it will be more stable motor? Most of the stuff already been fixed in the first year production. you see it in the change the water pump numbers and some of the other issues they run into?

Not sure what the extra model year will buy you except reduced No Cost Schedule Maintenance coverage.

And one LESS year of warranty coverage.

Also, this motor is one of Ward's Best 10 engines.

So far so good. I just missed the "replacement engine" issue. My car was built 11/04. And so far no new water pump needed.

BMW seems to stand behind their cars, at least from what I've seen. I'd much rather have the first year motor and 4 years of more complete coverage than waiting for the second year of the motor and get the reduced maintainence/coverage term.

That's just me.

I disagree with the warranty coverage statement. Can you please point me to official literature that BMW is actually cutting warranty down to 3 years?

While it is a well known fact that BMW's free maintenance is being cut to 3 years starting MY 2017, warranty coverage still remains 4 years as far as I know.

When that thread was originally posted, I saw a lot of people jumping to conclusions. There was a lot of misinformation there.

Maintenance plan =/= warranty and a lot of people didn't seem to read that part.

I originally mis-read it, too, so I don't blame them hahah.

The changes will be 3 years / 36000 miles vs. 4 years / 50. And they will exclude brakes, wipers and filters replacement from the coverage. New car warranty is still the same 4 years or 50,000 and we have different plans allowing you to extend it through 100k miles.

I am not sure exactly, but I am pretty sure it is some time in September. This would be the date manufacturing switches over, so you might order a month or two earlier and still get a 2017.

"Late summer" but I know I had a car built in October that was the next model year. I ordered in the first half of August, and when I arrived Munich in end of October/ first days of November, my car was the new model year before I had seen one in the US.

Well, I have had my F30/340/B58 for six months and so far, it has been bullet proof. I am getting 32+ mpg on extended highway drives and about 26mpg overall. A rapid ride when I want it, and no complaints at all.

My July 2015-built 340i has been rock-solid mechanically; bear in mind you tend to hear more about problems in forums then lack of problems, so they tend to get amplified.

As far as timing...using 2015 as a guide, orders should begin around May, production should switch over in July, and US deliveries should begin in late July/early August.

Apart from another member who mentioned that his car may have shut off while driving on the freeway, I am the only affected person so far with a 2016 340i and for the record, I don't only visit this message board to post my issues. I'm here just about everyday to read/post/learn all things F30 and been around here since I started considering my E90 in 2007.

My 340i was a July 2015 build and issues for me so far that I consider are REAL issues:

1. Excessive wind noise (whistling) from day 1, corrected by adjusting the door striker and dealership test drives of about 180 miles.
2. Coolant pump failure in less than 5000 miles and 7 months. Car has been in the shop since March 21, waiting on replacement pump (new part number since 09/2015) to arrive possibly today.

I hope mine was a one off and with the replacement pump, the issue is fixed for good. That said, I absolutely love the car and similar to MikeTerp, I have been seeing 32 mpg tanks with a best of 32.7 and an overall average of 29 mpg.

Been driving a brand new F30 LCI 328i for the past 10 days and while it is nicely equipped and serves the purpose, it just isn't the same as my 340i. Can't wait to get back in my car and praying it will be soon, hopefully by tomorrow.

Rambama sorry to hear of the issues with your car. I have seen issues with the 340s until October build dates. Mine was built in November. That is what I keep telling myself.

Start of production is July 2016 depending on the backlog of orders in your area and expect them to start taking 2017 allocations mid May to the end of May. If you don't live in the northeast or California or another extremely BMW popular area it will probably be closer to the end of May.

I don't know your timetable but be aware they do close the factory in August so if you're trying to take delivery in September or August I'd go to your dealer at the beginning of May and tell them to save you an allocation as soon as they get them. So you get yours built before the summer break.

Curious to know what other issues you've seen or know of other than my coolant pump and possible engine replacement on some 50 odd cars built in South Africa.
