Help regarding MAF - Continental/Siemens VDO branding

Hello bmw enthusiasts,

I am currently suspecting my maf for rough starts, surges and a bit of a rough idle. I have cleaned it and it has shown improvement but the symptoms re-appeared, i wanted to know from what year did Continental started branding the Siemens VDO mafs and if you can tell from this picture if this is the car's factory MAF, i see -06 after the code(which is my car's production date) but i know that the original factory MAFS had Siemens VDO written on them and later came with Continental branding.

CLIFFS: Can someone tell if this is the car's factory maf or do you think it was changed over the course of those 10 years.

Check on RealOEM with your car's VIN number.

On realoem it appears with the code shown on the above pic, it means it's the stock factory one, correct?

It should be fine then. I also replaced my MAF about a year or so ago (was a gamble to solve what I am experiencing) and it was also a Continental branded - it's the same company and it seems that the branding changed from VDO, to VDO-Siemens, to Continental as far I remember reading back then. An ECU specialist that I took my car to was very quick to turn his nose up when I told him that I fitted this part, saying that it's not a "genuine" BMW part, but then later on admitted that it was working properly and giving the ECU the correct values.

That looks like the stock one that came on my '06 325i. I recently replaced it with the VDO/Siemens part and everything works fine.

I also just replaced it and the car shakes on start-up. Does it need time to settle in with the new values or do i need to write it in the car's ECU/program it?

Mine didn't shake or do anything unusual, but it is best to reset adaptations when fitting a new MAF. Disconnect the car's battery for half an hour, that should clear the adaptations.

Gotcha, now it drives like a true 6 cylinder. I'm happy the problem went away but going through coils, plugs, injectors, solenoids.... no regrets
