Catless downpipe smell

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how bad a catless downpipe smells on an N20? My brother had an ecoboost F150 that he put catless downpipes on and the smell is pretty darn pungent. My cousin though had catless downpipe on his S4 and he said it didn't smell too bad and his brother has a newer Jetta with a catless downpipe and they say it doesn't smell too bad either. Any input?

Thanks

Smell is really annoying in the underground parking, you can definately feel it after you turn your engine off and get off your car. Its not so noticeable if you're driving outside, but if the car is stationary with engine on and you have tailwind, you will feel it also. Guys selling catless downpipes will tell you that it smells like flowers, racetrack etc, but I suggest borrow catless n20 car and decide yourself after 2-3 days of usage.

I agree with enemigo13 I had a Catless and a week later I changed it for a high flow catted version. But I park in a garage so it was louder and echoed plus smelled rather pungent like raw gas.

Since you had both catless and catted, how much louder is the catless compared to the catted? Is there and turbo spool sound with the catted?

Everyone is going to have a different opinion of how bad it smells. Some people can't stand it, some people don't notice it. I'm of the camp of I can't really smell it at all and I use 4 gallons of E85. My wife, who can smell blood in the water from a mile away has never mentioned a smell either.

I have the ER catless downpipe. Got it installed about 1-2 months ago or so. I can only smell it when it's warming up in the garage and that's only if i'm standing behind it or if i'm not in the car. Other than that I never smell it. Some people say they smell it while sitting at res lights, if they can do that they must have a nose of a dog. Good luck with whatever you choose to do! The exhaust sound note and loudness will be worth the little smell that comes with it!

The sounds is much better than the stock Cat, and less aggressive compared to the Catless. Those are also objective and hard to describe / differentiate. I still get loads of nice burbles and pops in sport/+ mode.

Performance wise actually can't tell the difference, but we'll see how it effects things once my Stage 2 Hexon Turbo is woken up by the ACFPerformance Stage 3 tune I'll be loading over Bootmod3 later this week...

If you keep your windows & roof closed, probably not going to smell at all on start up. Then again, some days I start mine up and can smell a little, whilst on other days, not at all.

If you want to push the car in Sport mode, chances are you will smell the fuel/burn and again, it depends on the day.

Ive had my car with a catless for some months and the smell never gets really bad. Performance is awesome.

Do you have a catback exhuast on your car as well? If so, how loud is the exhaust+dp compared to a straight piped car?

Also, if possible, can anyone tell me how much louder a straight pipe would be compared to a catback exhaust with a catless downpipe? Are they pretty close or are straight pipes a whole lot louder?

I wouldnt recomend straight pipe because of the drone, but thats just me. My 335i catless with stock exhuast is pretty loud but not obnoxious. All my friends say its a perfect setup since its quiet while cruising but loud when I want it to be.

In regards of smell, I did so many searches about it and everyone had a different opinion on it. It smells when the car is idling to long or yout stand behind the car when there is no wind. If your windows are down you will smell it when your at a red light but its not really strong.

In the end I said F*** it and i went catless and i havent regretted it.

I already have an AWE catback exhauat I was wondering how loud it'd be compared to a straight pipe since I know those are supposed to be the loudest. Thanks for the response anyway!

By th way does the smell stick to your clothes? I was taking a video of my brothers truck that has a catless downpipe and I swear the smell stuck to my clothes after about 15 seconds

If installed correctly you should only smell it on the outside if car has been on idle for a long time during cold start
