We are proud to be very first in North America to have a fully working iDrive 5.0 retrofit on a 2016 M235i xDrive Convertible (Canadian spec) with all OEM parts.

Last week, we were able to obtain a full fledged iDrive 5.0 unit along with a screen and iDrive controller from a US 440i donor vehicle, flashed it to my vehicle's spec and loaded a custom set of FSC codes and to my surprise, we are able to retain all of the ConnectedDrive functionality that originally came with the vehicle! RTTI, Concierge, Internet and BMW Online are all working.

We have experimented with this in the past and tried with various iDrive 4.0 NBT EVO equipment but due to many difference in the hardware, we were never able to retain the vehicle's ConnectedDrive functionality.

We plan to make this retrofit available later this year to those who own a 2016 F2x and F3x vehicle that originally came equipped with navigation. If your vehicle was equipped with ConnectedDrive, you can keep using your existing subscription with our retrofit.

This would only apply to those who own a '16 unfortunately. '14s use different Telematics equipment that's not compatible with iDrive 5.0 hardware.

We do have converted ID5 units that will work on your vehicle but you will lose ConnectedDrive.

The only '15s this will work on are the F23 built from November 2014 and F22 built from March 2015.

Likely around May. There are still some small issues that we need to sort out before making this fully available. Yes, we can source European equipment as well.

If your 2016 F36 has Navigation and ConnectedDrive then this is absolutely possible.

Yes, it is fully speced and has both Prof. Nav and ConnectedDrive.

We're still not absolutely sure on whether or not this will work in markets outside of ECE and US but stay tuned.

I have an m235 built in 2015. How can I check if I can do this upgrade?

Edit- I don't have navigation. So I don't know if this would be possible at all.

This specific ID5 retrofit would only apply to those who own a 2016 F2x and F3x that is already equipped with the On Board Navigation system and has an active ConnectedDrive subscription.

In your case, we can provide you with a different ID5 retrofit that has CarPlay, Navigation, Voice Control and BMW Apps enabled but without ConnectedDrive. If you are interested, please PM.

Yep, as long you have the technology package and an active ConnectedDrive subscription.

Our solution is completely plug and play and takes 10 minutes to install. All that's required from you is to remove the HVAC panel, remove the head unit and move connectors over the the new head unit. All of the coding/programming takes place here before we ship the unit to you and it is coded and activated for to your VIN. You don't need to modify any wiring or cut anything.

You keep your existing head unit for lease return/warranty purpose and this will not void warranty.

Right now, we are still testing on the M235i and working out some small issues.
