New key fob appears as "invalid"
Hey,
a month ago i lost a key fob to the sea... i ordered a new one wich i got today, i tried pairing it with my car by following the supplied instructions (not having the working key inside the car when trying this out the first times) , holding it up to the marking on the steering column and pressing the start/stop button. I did this a couple of times, but it did unfortunately not work at all. After these failed attempts i tried ISTA+ on my PC and indeed there was a section for pairing in new keys, while i tried this out it said "the remote key with the following number was recognized: Invalid The invalid key number indicates a fault of the key. No keys can be blocked or enabled." my other key, key #1 reads out fine and is fully fuctional, Any ideas what i can do? Ill probably call the dealer tomorrow!

Where did you purchase the key from?
On e9x, 10 key codes are pre-programmed into the CAS module, so you need to order the key from BMW so the new key is coded to the next sequence already programmed into CAS. If you ordered the key online the key won't be coded correctly. The programming you see in ISTA+ I believe is for activating comfort access for that key, but the key already needs to be active before CA can be programmed. CA only also 2 active keys at a time. |
