USB iPhone 7 Problem: Charging on/off constantly
I have recently bought a 2013 BMW F30 with pro nav and enhanced bluetooth with streaming music etc.
However I would like to use the armrest USB socket for music playback, to get album art etc. and have tried for a while now but no luck. Every time I plug in my phone it keeps turning charging on/off constantly - like twice every second! Of course this also means no connection to the car at all. I saw this thread http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=737048&page=3 on Bimmerfest with people experiencing similar problems and have tried all their solutions but without luck. I only have original cables - have tried 3-4 Apple OEM cables AND the original BMW cable. No luck. I have also tried their solution of deleting the Bluetooth and turning it off on the phone - no luck Now you could say that the USB port might be broken, but I managed both a multimedia update and a full map update from a USB stick without a single issue and twice for a very short time I managed to get the phone to connect and saw that precious album art and WANT MORE Please if anyone has suggestions it would be appreciated For some reason I think it could have something to do with the power output but might be wrong

Sounds like some type of 'handshake' config between the protocols is off. Seems Apple's recent one or two updates have not been as 'smooth going' as others. Have also been having Apple iPhone Wi-Fi problems too due to Apple updates.

Might be something on BMW side where the new 'handshake protocol' is a bit off. Did you visit the BMW update site and make sure you're using the latest 'firmware'? Scroll down a bit and then to the right enter your VIN
https://www.bmw.com/en/topics/offers...e-devices.html Am curious, do you also have any Wi-Fi problems in general?

If you've tried multiple phones and cables, then the issue is with the car / USB port.

Had the same problem with my 6S. Tried some different cables and finally with that one it is working fine.

Just brought in my car to the dealer today for the same problem. It usually only happens during bumpy road conditions though. They confirmed that it was the USB port and it needed to be replaced. It's rare that it happens but it does! That might be your problem
Im using an Iphone 6S on iOS 10.3.3 and an OEM apple cable |

This is definitely the car.
It's a known issue, the phone is drawing too much current from the usb socket and it shuts down. I use an iPod touch in my car and have to make sure the battery on that is at a decent charge (50%+) or it does it too. I've learned to live with it, but there maybe is some fix. My car is in for service on Thursday so I'll ask them what they suggest. |

But I guess a USB stick doesn't really use that much power

The USB port itself is pretty cheap and doesn't look that tough to replace, but is it really just the port? Link: https://www.schmiedmann.dk/da/bmw-f3...4-10-9-229-294

Newbie Alert...
I'm reading all these posts, and find myself in a similar yet slightly different situation: 2014 F30 recently purchased, with NAV option, and one USB port in the armrest. Here is what I have found so far:
Now, I wonder if there is an issue with the USB port or if its with my setting. Any of you experienced users have more ideas for me to try? Thanks! Edit: I figured what was wrong with my 2017 Map update, and I was able to perform the update today. The only remaining problem is the direct iPhone USB connection issue. Bluetooth won't help with the charging issue. I also use bluetooth but don't need to get the car coded for that, I can see album art and advance to the next track or go back to the previous track. I use Amazon Music as it is included with Amazon Prime with no ads.
