Hissing sound from transmission
Hi all!
This is my first automatic BMW (F34 LCI, 320d, 140kW, automatic with paddle shifters on sports wheel) During any gear change from D to N or R, no matter if car is standing or in driving, I head very low hissing sound for 1 sec from gearbox itself. UPDATE: video from post #5: https://vid.me/LLdGi Can anyone tell if this is normal - and that I should rest my OCD or gearbox should be COMPLETELY silent? Thank you Last edited by phnikola; 08-18-2017 at 04:52 AM.. |

When I start my vehicle in the morning and put it in any gear there is a short, very low sound but nothing similar to hissing. After driving it for a while, it's completely silent. Could you record the sound perhaps?

Thank you for reply.
For me there is no difference. Each time I shift between D - N - R (like traffic light stop) there is short sound like hissing (actually like gearbox mechanism is internally deploying command and starts moving mechanical parts as a response to moving the lever). Once I switch to manual mode (+/-) this sound is gone. Also sound is not present if I use paddle shifters. So its only D - N - R positions change. It is very short - but I can definitely hear it each time if there is no music in the car. I will try to record it today after work. |

Looks like aluminum but the reflection of the light makes it look brighter.
