Jb4 experts for 335xi

Hey experts, recently I installed a jb4 on my car and it seems slower and more restrictive that when I just had Dinan sport tuner.

Anyone have same or similar experiences, I was running Dinan sport tuner on racing which was 4psi+

Current mods:
Intake
MPPK
MPE

I do have Wagner competition intercooler, chargepipe and AR catted downpipe coming.

Just curious as to why it was less responsive and slower than the $200 Dinan tuner. I am assuming my other mods will compliment the jb4 better but did I make a mistake not going with a vf engineering flash tune or something different?

Thanks

Newer to my bmw so I'm trying to learn it all

The JB4 has full data logging so record a log and add it to the thread or email it to bms so they can see what's going on for you.

All the experts are at N54tech.com

Only time I would recommend JB4 is if you want to run WMI also

JB4 only N55 EWG cars routinely make 360-400whp. Unlike a flash tune you can also remove the JB4 without a trace when needs arise, and it has resale value. If he's running slower than a Dinan tune clearly something is wrong.

Flash vs JB4 is about so much more than just peak numbers. This must be the most talked about topic on all of BimmerPost..........but for me the numbers and WOT experience is only 20% of it. The rest is response, feel of integration, smoothness, shift quality (on the automatic) - on all of these parameters I feel the JB4 fall short. I have 4 years of experience with the JB4...and it is great at many things!

Sounds like something is very wrong. Did you buy the JB4 new or used? Have you attempted to disconnect and reinstall?

With the JB4 installed correctly you should feel a MASSIVE difference in map2 VS the Dinan tune. I highly recommend reaching out to BMS to troubleshoot. Their service is great!

You did check to see what map it is on right?

Thanks for all the feedback.

I have checked map I have the Bluetooth connected and it has been back and forth from Map 1 and 2.

With my Dinan Tuner I typically see the sport cluster gauge go between 340-360 torque and 320 hp at 80-100% throttle.

It doesn't seem to be activating full boost as my intake is not as loud nor does my exhuast get the kick it typically has. Ranges have been around 300hp and 320-330 torque on the cluster.

I have verified connections and all it good.

Question I had during install was the ewg extra cable. I connected it to the sensor connected to intake tube. I'm assuming this was right. All the other connections clicked properly in place.

Fuel rail, map sensor and charge pipe. I am not sure what else to check at this point besides log and follow up with bms. It was used when I bought it but no flaw or anything with it. Bluetooth works fine. What all should I do next?

I'm in your boat if I want smoothness and shift quality. I don't care as much about pure power. Want to have decent pulls that are slightly stronger than Dinan sport tune but smooth. The sport tune was good and felt fine but I feel a different in the jb4 install

Nothing connects to the intake. If used previously who knows what firmware or settings were loaded so you have to log it.

What am I missing? Where should this go if not there. I didn't see anything from the installation guide

That add on EWG attaches to the wastegate, but for now I'd leave it tucked out of the way. You may have damaged the JB4 electronics that drive that connector by attaching it to the wrong sensor. May not have. You
can sort that out later when logging.

I have barely driven on it in the last day. I am disconnecting it and will connect it to the wastegate tonight. I found the answer to where it should go as no instructions showed it properly and it was hard to even know where

Well I am currently leaving it unconnected. Absolute pain to even do and I don't have a pick tool or anything to help.

Anyone have suggestions on easiest way from an x drive. There is no room at all.

Use a long flathead, left hand on the cable, right hand push the corner of the flathead under the connector to lift the tab that locks it in place.

It took me 25 minutes the first time, it takes me a few seconds now. Be careful not to damage anything.

If this thread was from 2016, I would understand. It's 2018. Get a flash tune.

Don't want to flash tune my car as it's under warranty for 2 more years. Rather take the jb4 off when I take it in.

At this stage I would seek professional installation from a reputable shop. None of the connections are optional or can be installed incorrectly, this may lead to damage to your car.

I hope you get the JB4 working!
