Engine Coolant Level Check

According to the Owner's Manual, you have to check the coolant in both of the reservoirs in the X3 xDrive30i B46 engine compartment. I looked in both and I only see a level mark in the smaller reservoir.

Do I use the embossed arrow on the outside of the larger reservoir????

Thanks

There are Two Embossed Arrows

There are two embossed arrows (one pointing down and one pointing up) on the side of the larger reservoir. The arrows are above and below the reservoir seam.

To bad that the owners manual only tells you how to check the smaller reservoir.

WallyF...

The smaller of the two is easier to understand. I agree. Onthe large white tank at appx. the 7 o’clock position is a downward pointing arrow above the seam and an upward arrow below the seam.

The space between the two arrows is the target zone. You don’t want to go above the point of the downward arrow tip and you don’t want to go below the the point of the upward pointing arrow.

Target is the zone between the two arrows.

Easier way to understand this is always aim for arrow point of the upward pointing arrow. And if you overfill a little bit try not go above the point of the downward facing arrow.

I do not see any embossed arrows on my tank. Do you fill it to the seam or am I missing something?

What about type? I just purchased used with 9k miles and it has green coolant. Reason I know is I smelled coolant and checked the level which was all the way to the top of the small reservoir. So I used a turkey baster to get it right.

None of our previous 3 BMW's used the green coolant. I realize color doesn't tell everything with coolant, but green in a BMW? I also noticed whoever did the last oil change made a mess under the engine cover. So it has me worried.

Just replied to your previous thread. Green is new and is normal for New BMWs.
