tire loading for X3 (G01)

Hello,

Any suggestions about the winter tire for the X3 (G01)? Not many choices for 225/60R18, 104H.

Can we down the loading to 100? The previous X3 can use 100 or 99.

Thanks

Barry

I don't see why not, 100 load rating is still 7,050lbs across all 4 wheels. The vehicle only weighs 3,800-3,950lbs depending on trim.

Thanks.

There is a good tire Michelin - X-Ice Xi3 225/60 R18, 100H, but the loading rating is lower than the 104 ( from the manual ).

so long as you don't haul a couple yards of gravel in the hatch you should be fine.

What's wrong with the Vredestein Quatrac 5? It's 104V rated.

That's not a real winter tire, compound probably isn't soft at -20.

It's severe snow rated with the 3 peak mountain symbol. -20C is only -4F, I use regular all season tires (DWS, Pilot Sport A/S 3) at those temps in Denver.

Either way, I wouldn't go with a tire that doesn't meet the proper load rating, it's not like you'll be able to find a shop that will actually mount them anyway.

We see -20f or colder, -28c for a couple weeks a year. I've run all seasons before but they are sub optimal at those temperatures. I had an 18" front tire shred and complete separate from the sidewall last winter at -30c, all-season mountain peak symbol, it went flat at 100km/h and disintegrated within 200-300 feet on hard packed snowy bridge. You might be right about the weight rating, I haven't looked at the door to see the gvwr on these cars.
