G01 X3 2.0d impressions after 5000km and some issues

Got myself one of the early European market G01, 2.0d 190bhp production date 11/2017. It used to be a demo car for a local dealer (so it has some kit on it) with 5k on the clock, and I managed to add another 5k. I think it is a fabulous car for a small family, comfortable and quiet on the motorway and fun to drive for an SUV when you throw it into a corner.

Issues so far:
1)awful noise when you rev it in cold start. I think this car might have a problem, because in the first minutes is seems the engine is breaking into small pieces. I am curious about what other owners of this engine are experiencing
2)occasional rattle from the center ventilation area
3)few unexpected brakes in city traffic (I disabled emergency parking brake assist)
4) I cannot find proper equalizer settings for the HK audio system. It does not sound as good as previous HK in F30, at least for bass depth. What do you guys think?

Other than that I am very happy with the new X3. It looks fabulous in pythonic blue with the M-sport package, it drives well and it is a great all-rounder.

I have the M Sport 2.0D in phytonic blue with 300miles (4500km) on it. Haven’t experienced any of your issues -once started the car is fairly quiet, and I don’t have the HK system I went for the BMW advanced one which makes the music very clear indeed. Great motor so far.

Should have added, watch out for the short journeys though, a bit off putting when you get out the car having switched it off and the fan is in “overdrive” for a few minutes. Take care of the DPF!

I noticed the fan sometimes is working after you switch off the engine. It reminds me of my old Dacia ) . I haven't seen this behavior on F30 with N47 engine

Thanks for the impressions. Regarding the HK settings, do you have Logic7 enabled? I tried both, and to my ears, Logic7 makes everything sound worse. Disabling it was better and clearer IMO.

As for the EQ, mine is nearly flat (Logic7 off), with just a slight treble lift and bass lift, with some bass cut around the 200-500 Hz frequencies to remove some boominess.

The controls? The HK system has the usual bass/treble controls, but also something like a 7-band equalizer. However, as others have said, you really should kill the logic7 setting, as it seems to make everything muddy.

When you activate Logic 7 at low volume it sounds ok, I makes everything smooth but when you ramp up the volume it ruins the low frequencies. I have deactivated Logic 7, I will keep it like this for few days to adapt my ears and then I will start to play with EQ for the low ranges

I called the dealership to complain about the engine noise during cold start and they also told me there is a service bulletin for problems related to fuel tank sensor for my car which they have to investigate.
They didn't check the fuel tank yet, but they found a faulty fuel injector (no 4) which they say it is causing the problems during cold start. They ordered a replacement and when it arrives they will also check for possible fuel tanks problems.
I was a little surprised because I was not expecting to have this kind of issues in a new BMW with an engine (B47) that is on the market for more than 3 years. Good thing i asked for 4 years warranty

How is the sound doing after a few days Logic 7 turned off?
Did you try to play with the EQ?

Logic 7 is a horrible feature - I was seriously unimpressed with my HK until I realised you need it off. My system sounds pretty good now although it can vary by audio source : Spotify via BT in particular is not great, CD is awesome.

Definitely Logic 7 will be OFF, but still I haven't tried different audio sources, other than Bluetooth / Spotify. Bass is somehow better but still I was expecting more depth. With my previous HK system in F30, the whole car was vibrating, you could even feel the bass outside the car. In this one, I can't even feel my seat vibrating, maybe is something wrong with the sub-woofers.

engine noise video

Still haven't fixed the engine rattle when starting cold in the morning. I visited the dealer 6 times so far, one injector was replaced but the result is the same.

What do you think this is ?

They finally found the cause for the awfull noise. The vibrations and the noise is coming from the climate pipes inside the cabin and they need to replace some fittings.

1- Would check engine THOROUGHLY including BlackStone lab test.
3- No idea
4- My F30 HK has been flawless in 150,000 kms and two different cars.

1) solved a while ago, it was caused by a some vibrations of the ventilation pipes ( during troubleshooting they also replaced one fuel injector ) )
2) the rolling tray in the center console is vibrating around 1800 rpm, still no solution
3) solved
4) the HK system in G01 needs a subwoofer

Now at 28k, still enjoying it. I am thinking about buying a power box )

I have the rattle from the front vents, more of a resonating not a rattle.

Press on the trim below the vents mine comes from there. I'll have to get it booked in sometime.

I haven’t eyeballed them, but I understand there are two, under the seats

Certainly I get some seriously punchy and clear bass if I tune for it.

My reference is my previous the HK system in F30 where bass was much stronger.

Your F30 reference also happens to have a much smaller cabin volume vs the one in the G01! It's easier to get good bass from any speakers in smaller space.
